Get ready for a thrilling ride as I share with you the story of my family's farm just outside of Portland, Oregon! It all began in 1955, when my family took a leap of faith and purchased this land with a vision to create a self-sustaining homesteading lifestyle.
Over the years, we've raised a variety of animals - from Hereford cattle to horses, goats, pigs, and even cats and dogs! But that's not all - the farm also came with a large barn that was built in the 1930s, used for milking cows in the basement and hay storage upstairs.
My father used the barn for storage of construction equipment until a devastating storm, the Columbus Day typhoon of 1962, blew it away, leaving only the basement intact. But don't despair - the basement is still being put to good use as a woodworking shop! We have also recently repurposed an old chicken shed into a bandsaw mill enclosure.
But that's just the beginning of our journey to keep this farm in the family. So buckle up and come along for the ride.
