Wherever people are in crisis, the Red Cross and Red Crescent are there, saving lives and bringing hope. Our collection of historic films and videos documents the humanitarian activities of the IFRC and its member National Societies from Afghanistan to Zambia, from 1936 to the 2000s. The recordings also illustrate how the norms of representation and self-representation change. Some stories were told in ways that would not be used by the IFRC now.
From 1999 to 2016, film preservation projects were conducted with Memoriav (memoriav.ch) to digitize the IFRC's 35mm and 16mm films. We are now digitizing +600 films produced by the member National Societies from our archive.
