It's time to ride the Tube ... through the Decades!
Had this idea a while back and 2025 is now the year to do it.
Following on from 'End of the Line' and 'Unconnect', there's a great new series here in which I find one London Underground station from each decade [ So - 1860s, 1870s, 1880s, and so on .... ] which I visit, explore them, and talk about what's there.
First one this week! Keep an eye out for it, starting with an absolute classic which does of course have to be one of the seven first Underground stations on the network.
It's the London Underground - Through the Decades!
( this title always make me think of and hum the Spandau Ballet song 'Through the Barricades' - try not to do that! )

Two links! Two important links!
I noticed today that Alex Nelson has published a new version of his National Rail Network Map - something which is on my wall, and that i use all the time. Itâs a brilliant map with exquisite detail depicting every station in all four UK nations with their three letter codes, indications of request stops, etc ...
This new edition marks the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington railway being celebrated this year with a great deal of detail of early railways in the UK, and shows major railway museums around the UK as well.
Get it here: www.railmap.org.uk/
And then, I notcied that Richard Fairhurst has published an update to his incredible Adlestrop Rail Atlas with the December 2024 edition which shows all current AND disused lines across the network, he's made additions and corrections and added in where HS2 is being built as well - it's an amazing free PDF download, which you should absolutely do!

Ok, so brand new new video coming this [ Weds ] evening ... but in the meantime, it appears that Christmas is also going be here soon, in which case, here are some top picks of things that you might want to gift or someone, or put on your own list of suggestions of things to be gifted!
First is the fabulous new Mark Ovenden offering - "Iconic Transit Maps" a book that features archival and modern maps from a dizzying array of locations around the world - it's full of beautiful maps, basically.
Amazon : www.amazon.co.uk/Iconic-Transit-Maps-Worlds-DesignâŚ
Secondly, Gareth Dennis's new book "How Railways Will Fix the Future" talks about the vital role of railways, and advocating for their potential as a common good - a compelling read.

And thirdly, no new year would be complete without Luke "TubeMappers" new Calender, for 2025 with a splendid array of his photos from the London Underground. That's on his website here:

And that's my Christmas plugs done! :-)

South Western Railway has a Press Event yesterday to formally launch the Class 701 'Arterio' where a train got named ( five trains are being named in total ) but more importantly - they now have official roll out dates for the rest of their network.
Up until now there has only been a few diagrams mainly on the Windsor line, but starting December 2024 you'll see them on Shepperton services, then early next year in 2025 they'll run on Kingston and Hounslow Loop services, followed in the spring and beyond they'll start popping up on Dorking, Chessington, Epsom, Hampton Court and Guildford services ...
So the 701s are finally here! In proper service, which means ... I guess this will be the start of the 455s starting to be withdrawn, so the day is coming when the last one of those will run!

So as per my latest video, I've started Memberships on my Channel!
In the world of Youtube ( where viewing habits have changed due to Shorts, and TikTok ) I'm doing this to enable me to carry on making great longform content and keep up the high standards which I hope youâve come to recognise.
Youtube Memberships is just YouTubeâs version of Patreon, there are many other channels that are already doing it and the time has come for me to do the same.
Memberships will get you access to exclusive posts, chats and extra video content, bonus videos and behind the scenes, as well as priority comments on my channel with a special Membership badge. Think of it as extra involvement in the channel on a monthly basis.
And to stress ... I will continue making regular videos. All regular videos will appear as before! You'll still be able to see all the regular videos that I make, Memberships just get to access to extra stuff!
So here's the link!
youtube.com/channel/UCd18OhMfRmjMjzSHP7Zrzmw/join
Or on your phone or tablet or computer, there's a button next to Subscribe that says "Joinâ â click that, or click on this link here, and then youâll see the page where you can join the Membership to the channel.
It would be incredible to have you if you want to join in and allow some fantastic railway content to continue to happen for a long time yet.
Kind thanks,
Geoff.

Hello! I'm a filmmaker who creates stories about transport - railways, buses, engineering and design.
In 2017, I visited all 2,563 stations in Great Britain, followed in 2019 by going to all stations in Ireland and the Isle of Man.
In 2024, I rode a part of all 544 bus routes in London.
I've previously twice held the Guinness World Record for travelling to all London Underground stations in the fastest time possible, in 2005 and 2014.
If you like my content and want to support the channel, you can JOIN the Memberships for extra stuff, by going to:
