Segregated schools weren't ended overnight either, it took years of consistent push and "noise-making" by advocates, until the Overton window shifted on the issue! Trump to Zelensky: forget Crimea, forget NATO and there will be peace.
This is basically what to expect from today's talks in my opinion. Putin is playing on Trump's mental decline and ego, while the Neocon and Christian Fascist wings of MAGA play off the results.
The Christian Fascists are increasingly powerful within the Trump Admin, who are:
- anti-EU (it's woke and degenerate, also Jimmy Kimmel fled there)
- pro-Russia (it's based and tradcon, no transes in women's bathrooms)
- pro-Putin (he's a based strongman fighting Western degeneracy)
It's time to accept that the US government is hostile towards the EU and Ukraine on an IDEOLOGICAL basis. They are religious authoritarians. Their utopia is a fundamentalist Christian dictatorship, where gays are put in camps. What little friendliness there is, is due to the Neocon dinosaurs waiting for the MAGA meteor.
Spare a thought for Ryan McBeth too, because he'll have to try and rationalize all that will happen today.

Looks like Trump will try to throw Ukraine under the bus after all. The question remains: what parts of these proposals will survive till the negotiations, and what the EU and Ukraine will say about it? The deal is going nowhere without the EU and Ukraine both okaying it, which I find unlikely.

I've decided to comment on the Gaza situation some more, because the suffering of the Palestinians has reached an especially inhuman, revolting level. I have seen photos of children, not even a year old, close to starving to death, and worse. Meanwhile, Israel is still blocking aid trucks, citing Hamas as the reason.
Israel could have avoided the vast majority of civilian casualties if they wanted. They could have set up filtration camps around the Gaza strip, where people can go to wait out the Gaza "offensive". Where they go through a security check, get x-rayed for hidden items, get identified, their fingerprints and biometric data taken, documents issued, and so on. Where they could stay, receive food every day, and so on. Israel could have done this easily, and the US would have paid for it in full. Instead, they left the population locked inside a war zone, to suffer for the second year in a row.
Beyond the indescribable evil of willingly enacting suffering on millions, this state of affairs brings other, severe consequences:
1) Israel played a major role in eroding the rules-based international order. It was never perfect, but it was mostly followed by most participants. That was as good as it could get in our current realities. Israel, however, continued to ignore international law, with the full support of successive US governments, and gradually colonized the West Bank. The question arises: if Israel can ignore the rules-based international order, with the full support of the US, why should anyone else follow it? Thus we now live in the world of "might makes right".
2) Nazis around the world have a much, MUCH easier way of propagandizing. The way the US establishment bends over backwards to support Israel, even if Israel itself is openly disdainful towards the US, provides the perfect ammunition for nazi conspiracy theorists: "See? See? The Jews DO rule us! We're the strongest country on Earth, yet we aren't "allowed" to stand up against Israel?" This is of course BS. The reason why US politicians keep supporting Israel is because it's a geopolitically useful military base in the Middle East. Still, the optics of the affair are horrible, and in my opinion will lead to a new wave of global antisemitism and conspiracism.
What's going on in Gaza right now is completely unacceptable. It's cruel and inhuman, akin to what the actual nazis were up to in the 1930s-40s. Israel bears full responsibility for it, as the overwhelmingly more powerful party in the equation. If Israeli leadership wanted the suffering to stop, it would stop tomorrow. They do not seem to want that, however. The end goal is obviously to ethnically cleanse the Gaza strip.
On a deeper level, this entire situation is due to a major ideological failure post-WW2. Jews suffered the Holocaust, so world leaders considered ways to not let this happen again. The reason why the Holocaust happened was ethnic nationalism, which the nazis managed to industrialize. They took it to its logical endpoint, if you will. But instead of realizing (or admitting) that it was ethnic nationalism and the institution of the ethnostate that led to the Holocaust, world leaders decided the best solution will be to give Jews their own ethnostate. That way, if any other country wants to do a second Holocaust, Jews will have a place to go. Needless to say, this is not a good solution. It's like renting a woman an apartment she can go to in case her husband tried to beat her to death again in their family home. You're not addressing the core issue.
Giving Jewish people an ethnostate has of course resulted in the rise of Jewish ethnic nationalism. The population seems to be fine with the events in Gaza (according to a Haaretz poll, 80+% of Israelis support the ethnic cleaning of Gaza). This is not unexpected. This is your brain on ethnic nationalism. Trust me, I know. I grew up in Hungary.
What's happening in Gaza is a clear attempt at violent ethnic cleansing. They want the population to either die, or go away somehow, somewhere. Supporters of Israel are fine with that, because they view Palestinians as subhuman, or at the very least less valuable than Israelis. The tragic thing however, is that once the Gaza ethnic cleansing is done, all that far-right energy that built up within Israel won't go away. It'll likely turn inward, first towards their Arab minority, then towards other groups, like their often-referred-to LGBT community. It'll continue on afterwards, until Israel is just another theocratic dictatorship in the Middle East. Because you cannot build a Western, democratic country on an overtly ethnic nationalist foundation.
