i won southern champ in fmc here's the recons and my thoughts

Horrible 8/8/6 scramble. I had no sub-13 DRs and had to resort to a 13+3. There was a 12+4 on the same RZP that I definitely should’ve seen, but even that is quite bad. Optimal from DR is 25 (not findable), so my finish was okay.

Another terrible scramble, this time 8/8/8. This 12+2 was my only decent DR. I noticed the R L in EO and looked for double slice opportunities, but I couldn’t find anything. Optimal from DR is 23 (not findable I think) so a +12 finish is pretty good.

Incredibly good scramble, 4/2/4. I did not write down any EOs over 4 moves, and I only checked for RZP in 4. There was even RZP in 3 on the scramble, but it didn’t go anywhere. I found this 8+3 pretty early on in the attempt and spent pretty much the rest of the hour trying to find optimal (which was 20) but unfortunately, I missed it because it required NISSing after 2qt which I didn’t check. Unlike the other two solves, I think this is the only one where I could’ve reasonably found post-DR optimal, so it’s pretty disappointing to miss a 20. Also, I had an HTR in 13 but the finish was bad.
Overall thoughts: I’m happy with a 24.00 PR2 Southern Champion mean, especially with how bad the first two scrambles were. I’m also pretty happy with my time management and checking speed - I was able to check 35+ EOs on the first two scrambles, and I checked around 20 4-movers on the last. I had solutions written down for all three solves by 45 minutes which is pretty much my goal in comp when I’m trying not to DNF, so that was good.

Today's the 5 year anniversary of my first WCA competition! I participated in 3x3 and Pyraminx, got 24.20 and 16.91 averages respectively, and didn't make round 2 in either event. I've come a long way since then :p
