I am quite honored and excited to offer some new and original music alongside this amazing piece by Loveis Wise (https://loveiswiseillustration.myportfolio.com) to help raise money for truly inspiring org's GLITS Inc. (https://www.glitsinc.org) and The Okra Project (https://www.theokraproject.com), in support of Black Trans Lives. Both these works stem from our âȘ@AdobeCreativeCloud⏠#AdobeCoCreate collaboration in June (https://youtu.be/CX2WuJS3vWQ), on the meanings and manifestations of Temple. My track in progress is also continually inspired of course by Loveis' remarkable piece. Please see Loveis' Instagram post for more and better said info and DM them on Instagram to bid!! instagram.com/loveiswiseillu

Weâll be discussing the essentiality of artistic and critical practices in a time of social and cultural upheaval. Artists and writers have long made peace with their practices and work being positioned as indulgences, and now amidst a pandemic and social reckoning, how do creative workers respond? What can be learned from artistsâ and writersâ longstanding practices, their unique relationships to patience and discomfort, to their perceptions and grit? And what about creative and critical work needs to change?

Thao & The Get Down Stay Downâthe San Franciscoâbased band fronted by singer and songwriter Thao Nguyenâreleased their fourth album, A Man Alive, on March 4, 2016. Following the critical success of We The Common (2013), which was largely inspired by Thaoâs volunteer work with the California Coalition for Womenâs Prisoners, A Man Alive is an evolution in both subject matter and sound. Thao says: âI wanted A Man Alive to be beat- and bass-drivenârather than guitar-basedâextending and elaborating upon the hip-hop influences of the previous record. A Man Alive is more instrumental, more riff- and loop-centric, and has more manipulated sounds.â The Get Down Stay Down are at their best on this record, and Thao herself experimented with programming drumbeats for several tracks, although live drums are also played on every song.
