Some of my regular viewers know I am pretty big into fitness, and I have some fitness workout videos on my homesteading channel and also some camping and long-distance hiking videos. But they don't get a lot of views. I have asked before if people wanted to see more of that content and some say yes and some say no and some say it don't matter. But in all of my fitness journey, I could work out lifting weights and do bowflex max for crazy amounts of time ... but I couldn't run. I used to love to run but cancer seemed to wipe out "how to run". I think a lot of people forget how to run as they age. So I had to learn again. I created a youtube channel to document that journey and maybe if you have forgotten how to run too, this channel might help you also . You can check it out here: youtube.com/@ICantRun-ew7xm or ‪@ICantRun-ew7xm‬

experimenting in the kitchen .... well, really it was .... I went to make german pancakes this morning and i had this idea, what if I mixed cream cheese, fruit (I had an excess of cherry pie filling I wanted to use up so went with that) and powdered sugar .... and this is what I created below. Now i have to admit the recipe tastes fine as is but i feel like it could be slightly better, like its lacking something so back to the drawing board. When I get it right I will upload a video on how to make it. Comment below if you would be interested .....

I post a similar picture every year to my Instagram and some people might get tired of it but if you have never had Greek yogurt (vanilla) with elderberry syrup, you don't know what you are missing. Thankfully most of my food cravings have gone away the last couple of months because I could eat this every day all day long.

This text is from sharp ridge homestead facebook post and the image is from the last few pictures on my instagram:

I have spent a considerable amount of time becoming as self sufficient as possible. Becoming self sufficient to me means, you live a humble life and not have to rely on outside things that most people rely on ... such as food. I try to grow, raise, hunt, forage, barter 80% of everything I eat. That in itself means, I cook a lot, i store a lot of foods for long term use (most is at least season to season so 12 months - some will last much longer, some shorter). As you age, you find that relying on others is never good. As an example, anyone remember all the "shortages" during the pandemic? I never experienced any shortages of anything because I already had what I needed and at an amount I assumed was for 12 months .... but ended up being more like 36-38 months. This is also when I was battling cancer. I don't eat restaurant food, I can't say ever but its hardly ever and maybe once or twice a year I will if I am with friends/family who want to eat at a restaurant. I avoid processed foods, I can't say always but probably at least 95% of the time or higher. All of this matters because when I ask people what their largest expense is every month, they always reply with "rent or house payment" .... and maybe that is true for some, but how much do you spend on food and restaurants? If its not your top monthly expense, I bet its in the top 3. And that brings me to this:

Was talking to a friend about the elderberry jam and here is what it boils down to: for less than the cost of 5lb bag of sugar, I saved $275 give or take to make it myself. The $275 cost is buying pre-made organic, made with real berries and not powder, dried, or artificial flavored elderberry flavoring. Made with real berries elderberry jam cost about $25 per 16 oz jar and I made 11-1/2 jars for slightly less than the cost of 5lbs sugar and some time (plus 1-1/2 lemons I grew myself).

So if you want to become more self sufficient, start by learning to grow your own food. If you cut out on of the top expenses in your life, life becomes more enjoyable knowing you don't have to rely on others.

I've never done a live video except for the 1,000 subscriber give-away and then it was only me for the entire video even though I announced it numerous times. I would like to do a live video feed, maybe just have an open discussion about anything once a week. So I am going to ask you if you would be interested in this, and if so, what day of the week works best for you? With enough interest, I am open to trying this but if its just going to be me talking to myself .... it won't last long. Select the day that would work best for you. (so youtube only allows you to do 5 poll options so I pre-filled them with the days I don't normally publish videos - currently monday and friday - if these days in the poll don't work for you, leave a comment for the day you prefer.)

I posted this video 4 years ago and its only had 11 views ... in 4 years! Its one of the best tasting zucchini bread recipes you will find. I would think it would be more popular since everybody always has excess zucchini this time of year. Give it a watch and a try and let me know what you think about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85L06...

I hope I don't make a lot of people mad with this change but I am changing the days and times that I post content. I've never been able to figure out how I have almost 800 videos on topic (homesteading, frugal lifestyle) and I don't get a lot of views even though my channel has existed for 15 years now. I have had people mention that maybe I was shadowbanned but I don't think I have ever posted questionable content. Another person suggested I try to post my content on different days and times and see if that helps ..... youtube uses all of these algorithms to suggest your videos to viewers who supposedly will like your content but they only "promote" your video for a certain time after its posted (and based how many likes, comments, and shares your videos get .... determines if they extend the time they promote your content). I have never felt like I should beg people to like, share, or comment on my content and always thought people would just do that anyways if they liked it .... but that doesn't seem to be how it works. So, if you do happen to find my videos, I would appreciate a like, share, comment, subscription, and hit the notification bell to be notified of other similar content. Upcoming video hint in the image with this post.

drip irrigation saves a LOT of water when it gets dry and you have a garden. If you are on well water or a cistern, it can mean the difference between taking a shower or not during dry periods. I uploaded a video earlier about repurposing the drip irrigation I used on the raised beds in the traditional in-ground garden. I now have it completed, the lines purged and tested. It will only run monday - wednesday - friday if its not raining and it only runs for 7 minutes, which with my heavy clay soil that is perfect.

I had someone reach out to me and asked if I could make my homemade ice cream videos easier to find and of course I was happy to do that. So I created a playlist containing all of my homemade ice cream recipes that should work in standard churn style makers and also ninja creami ice cream makers. If you ever have suggestions or need help with anything, even something as simple as finding my stuff easier, always reach out and I am more than happy to help. Thanks, Ed

every year I tell myself, don't eat all the gooseberries a little every day as they ripen and instead save them to make jam or cobbler or even syrup .... and every year I eat just a little bit every day anyways. Have you ever had gooseberries?
