On Day 4 of COP29, the Save Soil movement and Sadhguru attracted attention from several prominent changemakers, including Mr. Aziz Abduhakimov (Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan), Mr. Yerlan Nyssanbayev (Minister of Ecology & Natural Resources at Republic of Kazakhstan) and Mr. Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Sadhguru had various speaking engagements, including a telephonic interview with Forbes and a remarkable conversation with Mr. Eric Solheim, Former Executive Director of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Shi Yongxin, current abbot of the Shaolin Temple in China. The abbot presented Sadhguru with a unique artwork depicting Bodhidharma, who took martial arts from southern India to China and is known as the father of Kung Fu. The abbot graciously invited Sadhguru to visit the cave near the Shaolin temple, where Bodhidharma is said to have meditated for nine years.
Throughout the day, Sadhguru continued to speak about the importance of increasing soil organic matter to improve soil health and the dire need for soil revitalization policies that prevent the removal of organic content from agricultural soil. He emphasized that soil is not our property, but a legacy that we have to leave behind for future generations. Sadhguru also explained that the economy need not be in conflict with ecology and that ecological solutions must have economic benefits if they are to be sustainable in the long run.
