On August 15, 1812, the Battle of Fort Dearborn took place near what’s now Chicago.
American troops and settlers were attacked by Potawatomi warriors while trying to leave their fort.
This battle showed how the War of 1812 involved not just the U.S. and Britain, but also Native American tribes fighting against American expansion.
