Since the flagged off Operation DAKATAR DA BARAWO (OPDB) on 1st of April 2022, which means "Stop the Thief" in Hausa language, at the FOT Jetty Onne, Rivers State, oil thieves were denied the sum of Seventy One Billion Five Hundred and Forty Three Million Six Hundred and Ninety Seven Thousand Three Hundred and Seventy Three Naira Thirty Eight Kobo (N71,543,697,373.38) only, about 131 suspects arrested, while 519 Illegal Refining Sites (IRS) and 4,261 storage tanks have been deactivated, with 560 wooden boats and 69 vehicles demobilised.

Operation DAKATAR DA BARAWO (OPDB) aimed at further checkmating the activities of illegal refinery operators, crude oil thieves and other criminals in the Niger Delta region, recorded massive successes which forced Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, a former militant leader who in 2004 created the Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force (NDPVF), a militant group that once engaged in oil 'bunkering' and other illegal forms of local resource extraction, funded in large part by local and regional politicians who sought great profits from the region's oil revenue made unfounded allegations against the military, linked oil bunkering in the Niger Delta to top Army, military and Navy officials.

COAS COMMISSIONS ACCOMMODATION FOR SOLDIERS IN PORT HARCOURT BARRACKS...Charges troops to be more productive

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has commissioned 5 blocks of 60 single bedroom flats, to ease the dearth of accommodation for soldiers of the rank of Corporal and below in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Gen Yahaya commissioned the accommodation blocks today Monday 17 October 2022, while on an operational visit to 6 Division Area of Responsibility.

Speaking during the inauguration of the new blocks of building, the COAS noted that the newly completed project will bring succour to personnel, as it provides them with decent living accommodation and other infrastructures. He called on the troops to shore up their commitment and productivity in order to effectively secure their areas of responsibility.

The COAS, who further urged personnel of the Division to redouble their efforts towards achieving set operational targets, maintained that his administration will continue to take the welfare of soldiers very seriously and always implement measures that will boost their morale.

Aside the newly commissioned buildings, another set of 6 blocks of 30 flats each, were also renovated and have been occupied by soldiers and their families. Gen Yahaya also inspected 20 Vehicles refurbished by the Division for onward deployment into ongoing operations.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of keys to beneficiaries of the new blocks of accommodation by the COAS.

Nigerian Troops Arrest Notorious Kidnappers, 2 Rail Vandals, Recover Arms in Plateau, Zamfara

The Military says, troops of Operations SAFE HAVEN and HADARIN DAJI have arrested a notorious kidnapper/armed robber and cattle rustler; Mr Zwanlan Fatim - 42yrs and two rail vandals, Mr Abba Abdul - 23 yrs and My Joseph ZI - 26yrs at Shendam town and at Bas village in Plateau State.

This was made known in a press statement signed by Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Benard Onyeuko on Wednesday as continued to deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action in their area of operations.


Maj Gen Onyeuko noted that troops recovered 1 x locally made pistol, 5 x cartridges, 1 x rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 2 x mobile phones, 2 x Union Bank ATM cards, 1 x ID card, assorted charms amongst others. In another development.


He said, vandals were intercepted while conveying Eighty Six (86) railways UIC sleepers in a red Peugeot Boxer vehicle with registration No BAU 05 SX.

He added that, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI at the early hours of 27 July 2022 responded to a distress call from Bayi village in Tsefe Local Government Area of banditry activities.



Troops trailed bandits to one Alhaji Bello Dan Iya’s residence and neutralized 1 x bandit. Items recovered include; 1 x AK47 rifle, 1 x magazine, 4 x rounds 7.632mm special, 1 x MPs, 1 x sachet of marijuana amongst others.


Earlier, on 25 July 2022, troops engaged one suspected bandit on motorcycle while commuting bush path along Gidan Garba, Magami Local Government Area of Zamfara State. troops recovered 1 x AK47 rifle and 2 pairs of woodland camouflage. All recovered items are in own custody.

He said, the military high command commends troops of Operations SAFE HAVEN and HADARIN DAJI for their timely intervention, encourages the general public to avail troops with credible and timely information on criminal activities.
