After seeing Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties a few months ago, it got me thinking about it's villain Lord Dargis. For a long time, I had thought that he was another "generic-kill-the-heroes-villain" who would end up on the Villainous Benchmark Wiki but after my last rewatch of the film, boy was I wrong...

Much like my Near Pure Evil Proposal for the video game version of G-Force's Speckles, this here is not a real Inconsistently Heinous proposal, but does give an idea of how I can see Dargis fitting on the moral scale.

What Would Make Him Heinous?

Okay, on paper his crimes may seem bog standard and that would be the case if it wasn't for a few details one might overlook. You see, his main goal in the film is to turn Carlyle Castle into a Resort but in order to do so, he needs to get rid of the animals. All that is said in the film for them being gotten rid of is that Dargis intends on "serving them to the guests". But Carlos' Diner you may be noting, in order to qualify as Heinous, he must know they are sapient. For a majority of the film nothing indicates he knows they are sapient, that is until the climax when during an ambush by Nigel the ferret and McBunny, he yells "Good lord! It's a conspiracy!" Even after this, he still tries to have the solicitors sigh the deed to the castle. The final nail in the coffin of him knowing the animal's sapience even after he tried to continue his plan is when he was being arrested he continuously tries to blame the animals for his actions claiming that they were "plotting, planning, every one of them against me!" He really doesn't have that much in terms of competition since the only other "villain" in the duology is Happy Chapman and he doesn't really attempt to commit a large body count unlike Dargis.

Redeeming Qualities?

None. Although he acts polite towards Smithee and the Solicitors, it's only done out of pragmatism/professionalism. Although he seemed to care for Abby Westminster, not only does he take up a brief interest in Liz implying he is a womanizer, but he also subverts any possible care for Westminster during the climax of the film when he holds her (as well as the other solicitors) hostage. While he does care for his dog Rommel, it's only because he views him as a tool to get rid of "Prince" rather than as a pet. Overall, no redeeming qualities to his character in any way.

What Would Make Him Inconsistent?

Plain and simple, he is played for laughs way too much to be either PE or NPE. Although the barnyard animals treat him seriously, Garfield and Prince do not treat him seriously at any point in the film. Out of all the characters in the movie, he is subjected to the most slapstick in almost all of his scenes. What's ironic is that in comparison to Happy Chapman who had little to no comedic moments yet is not as Heinous as Dargis, Dargis on the other hand is more Heinous than Chapman yet is a complete joke in almost all of his scenes.

Verdict?

As I have stated in my Speckles (G-Force Video Game) Near Pure Evil Proposal, this is not a real Inconsistently Heinous Proposal. It's only to give an idea to where Lord Dargis in my opinion would fit on the moral scale.

So I had the idea to draw Happy Chapman (Garfield The Movie, 2004) and Lord Dargis (Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, 2006) but in the style of Jim Davis' Garfield comics.
