Since 2017, Chiefs from Southern Chiefsā Organization (SCO) and Mayors and Reeves from Winnipeg Metropolitan Region (WMR) and South Basin Mayors and Reeves (SBMR) have been working through a process of reconciliation facilitated by Centre of Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER).
Through a series of facilitated workshops elected leaders recognized the status quo was not enough and identified protection of clean water, waste management, increasing economic opportunities and good jobs as potential areas for collaborative action. The priorities identified by the Collaborative Leadership Initiative (CLI) leaders also align with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
