Era of Return /Atgriešanās Laikmets / Эпоха Возвращения
Canvas, acrylic, 70х70 cm, 3000 euro

Most people do not understand the meaning of this painting. It is about two ways of understanding the world: scientific and religious. Since ancient times, humanity has perceived the world through the prism of religions or mythologies. These explained how our world is structured. With the development of progress, people began to understand the structure of the world through sciences: physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, and many others. And religion receded into the background.

The author of the painting believes that sciences, while revealing knowledge about how the world works, cannot provide exhaustive answers to all questions, especially those about the meaning of life and spiritual guidance.

In the painting, you see a scientist holding a book titled "Science." He has read it all the way to the end and closed the last page but has not received answers to all his questions about the structure of the world and the meaning of life (this is symbolically depicted by the clouds around him). So, he raises his head upwards, seeking answers in the transcendent. In God, symbolically represented as the Light coming from above, through which the letters Alpha and Omega are visible. This light is always behind the scientist, illuminating his "world of clouds." The man senses this light but has not yet attained it. However, he may attain it and see the world in its divine fullness.

Some wise people and philosophers say that in the future, scientific and religious ways of understanding will unite, marking an era of return of religion.

The painting also encodes several other symbols and meanings, which will be seen only by those who, like the scientist, are obsessed with the quest to unravel the mysteries of the world.
