Sonam Wangchuk’s message from Central Jail, Jodhpur . (Pic/ Getty Images)
Today on the 4th of October Ka Tsetan Dorjey Ley ( Sonam Wangchuk’s elder brother ) and I ( Mustafa Haji- Lawyer ) met Mr. Sonam Wangchuk at Jodhpur Central Jail.
Mr. Sonam has conveyed the following message to the people of Ladakh and India.
1. I am doing well, both physically and mentally and thank everyone for their concern and prayers.
2. My heartfelt condolences to the families of those people who lost their lives and my prayers with people who are injured and are arrested.
3. There should be an independent Judicial Inquiry into the killing of our four people and unless that is done I am prepared to stay in Jail.
4. I stand firmly with Apex Body and the KDA and the people of Ladakh in our genuine constitutional demand for Sixth Schedule and Statehood and whatever actions Apex Body takes in the interest of Ladakh, I am with them , wholeheartedly.
5. I appeal people to keep peace and unity and continue with our struggle peacefully- in the true Gandhian way of non-violence.

Unfortunate to see such a tweet in bad taste from the Prime Minister’s handle. Only to justify the fact that India agreed to play Pakistan thrice just for BCCI’s commercial interests even as it continues boycott of Pak artists and other players and maintains talks and terrorism, water and terrorism cannot go or flow together.

I don’t remember when I first met Sankarshan Thakur, a long time journalist and editor with @telegraph . But my memories of his bylines were way older than our first interactions. Sankarshan Thakur always created magic with his writings. To be able to mix ground reportage and analysis and create political writings that read like an unputdownable book. Conversations with him would always be warm, laced with some brilliant memories, story telling and humour. He was generous with his time with journalists old and young, friends and acquaintances. Smartly dressed, the owl pin always traveled with him. He was the quintessential old school journalist and one of the last true tall editors remaining across Indian newsrooms. A few weeks ago I accidentally bumped into him and snatched a few minutes. Before we said goodbye our chat steered towards his pet peeve- he was stuck with administrative duties and limited resources and the reporter in him missed being away from the ground on many occasions. Little did I know that would be our last conversation. Travel well Chief . Your writings and books live on. Bihar elections analysis will just not be the same without you. You will be missed. Rest in peace 🙏🏾
