Growing up in rural southern Brazil with a poet mother and radio DJ father, Gabriel da Rosa was exposed to all kinds of music from his home country, but it wasn't until he moved to LA that he began curating Brazilian records and DJing himself. There, he bonded with Stones Throw's founder Peanut Butter Wolf, over their shared love of Brazilian music, and began writing his own bossa with collaborator Pedro Dom, a musician who's worked with some of Brazil's best internationally known artists (Seu Jorge, Rodrigo Amarante and Latin Grammy Award winner Ian Ramil).
Gabriel da Rosa released his debut record É o que a casa oferece on Stones Throw in 2023.
On his 2025 release with Stones Throw, Cacofonia, Gabriel pairs bossa nova with new influences: Brazilian musicians working in other genres, like Rodrigo Amarante and O Terno, and American artists such as David Byrne and Sam Evian – a reflection of how Gabriel has one foot in Brazil and the other in LA.
