No video this week!
I took advantage of the good weather to finish varnishing, paint part of the deck, work on window leaks, get my Washington Boaters License, and spend time with family who are in town this weekend.
I'm exhausted, but pleased with my progress.
I tried to get a video done through all of that, but it just didn't happen. New one will be out next Sunday 💙

The Indonesian dive shop dream lives on with @azul.komodo 🫶
For those who don’t know the full story about what happened to my dive shop, Azul Unlimited, in Labuan Bajo... After trying to survive the global shutdowns for over a year, my two business partners and I had to give up our baby. We couldn’t keep up with boat maintenance and salary payments without tourism to the area. It was a tough time to sell a dive shop because there was no expected end to the travel restrictions in Indonesia.
Fortunately, we were connected with Melissa and Simon, who were invested in what we had built and how we did business, so they took on the project and turned it into their own. Azul Komodo was born.
The best part about visiting for the first time since moving away is reconnecting with our old staff. I fully broke down and sobbed several times. It’s so good to see them doing well. And, of course, diving off the beautiful Biru Asmara boat filled me with so much gratitude for everything the team is doing here.
The dream lives on. @aitordiver and I collaborate with Azul Komodo on Instructor Development Courses and group trips. We support the Azul Komodo team by sending clients to dive with them and promoting their projects (like their beautiful new liveaboard, which will be in operation very soon).
In this way, life is a beautiful thing. Devastating situations can turn into phenomenal opportunities as long as I let go, take a leap of faith, and trust that some kind of net will appear.
Thank you, Azul Komodo and team, for the spectacular welcome back to Labuan Bajo. Ayo menyalam. Let’s go diving. Vamos a bucear.

It’s gone.
Yesterday, I walked down the familiar main street of Labuan Bajo for the first time since I moved away during the pandemic, and I was unprepared for this.
Of course, I heard about how much the town has changed over the past 3 years, and I just assumed my old shop had turned into yet another coffee shop in this strange little town. But there it was. Torn apart, still with remnants of what we created before the world shut down.
The beautiful Komodo National Park map mural that @jusjayson created for our grand opening is still there.
I spent so many hours in this office building our website and online presence to compete with the well-established dive shops in the area. We were preparing the upstairs to become our IDC classroom. There was so much hope around this project.
It’s bittersweet to be back here.
Part of me felt anxiety. Some of my lowest lows were here in this town as I struggled with addiction and loneliness. As I was flying here, my body had a visceral reaction as if it were telling me, no, don’t go back there. You’re not safe. The good thing is, the feeling was fleeting.
Standing here, I feel proud. We created something beautiful back then, and I’ve worked my butt off to create something different for myself now. I’m in a better head and heart space than ever before and I get to share this impactful place, not only with my divers on the KOMODO DIVE EXPEDITION but also with all of you who watch my videos.
Thank you for being a part of the Azul Unlimited community. I’m crying, and I’m grateful.

Congrats, Jamie, on your Rescue Diver certification!
We had some wild weather, and your dive buddies caused you a lot of trouble with all their panicking and dying, but you kicked butt and rocked this course.
Her words: “I didn’t expect it to be as challenging as it was, and I’m so proud I got through it.”
That’s what I love to hear after a Rescue Course. If you’re not tired after the dives, you didn’t get proper training.
Last week, we completed the Emergency First Responder, O2 Provider, and Rescue Course in Monterey, California, and I’m available for all @paditv recreational courses wherever I am in the United States! Send me a DM or email to arrange a course.
