We will be doing a livestream for Mikayla's Celebration of Life this Saturday the 12th starting at 11am central time. The stream should be broadcasting on Facebook, and YouTube. We wish you all could be here in person, but logistically that just isn't possible. But we hope you are able to watch from afar, and be present in spirit! Mikayla's mother was kind enough to cover all the costs of the livestream setup, as a thank you to everyone that supported her mission.

And of course, thank you all for your continued support. None of this is possible without you.

โ— Urgent โ— foxes in horrible conditions need your help!
I was contacted from a fellow sanctuaries Foxes Journey Sanctuary & Felix Foundation Fox Sanctuary and Rehab!

She was standing here at this place, to rescue some foxes. But she didn't have any space to take on these two foxes shown in these photos.
And with so many foxes I'm trying to get out of our current fur farm, the last thing I needed was more foxes. We are at such a financial strain! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

But we said yes, only because thankfully Foxes Journey Sanctuary can take them back OR two of our fur farm rescue foxes when she is ready.
There is two foxes still left at this farm.

But these two are in ROUGH shape. And we really need your donations.

It costs 90k a month to operate our sanctuaries and most weeks I spend 10 hours a day towards fundraising, it's really putting a strain on my mental health. But without making these important posts, we don't get donations.

โ—Back Storyโ—
A man was breeding these foxes to sell. Illegally. He held no permits DNR or USDA.

He put these foxes on his mothers property theyโ€™ve been there for a few years (3-5)

Then he and his mother had an argument and he left the property and abandoned them with his mother.

He actually tried to release them all and she stopped him but 2 did get out and have never been found or spotted so probably not alive any longer.

These foxes especially the ones you have, have lived in these tiny cages for their whole lives. She said he got them all when they were pups.

They were basically being feed, and made sure they were alive.
The waters clearly were full of green algae, literally massive piles of poop and dried dog food underneath each cage. There were maggots all over.

Education with Esmae fox

None of the foxes in our care, have ever been wild, and are unreleasable.

All the foxes here were bred in captivity for various purposes, and their familyโ€™s have been in captivity got 50 plus years. Due to this they are vastly different physically and mentally than wild foxes.

The foxes have come from fur farms, seized from bad situations, and are even surrendered by families who bought them to be pets.

If these foxes (or any domestic foxes) were released, they would not have the proper skills to survive in the wild, and unfortunately even if they did survive, it wouldn't be good. They would interbreed with wild populations introducing unnatural genes to the wild foxes. These domestic foxes carry colors that are unnatural and they also carry genetic diseases. With these introduced to the wild populations we would see a drastic decline in foxes, and it could even possibly drive certain threatened subspecies to extinction.

These foxes must live their life in captivity. There is no other option.

Introducing fur farm rescue fox Skye.
She only has a couple options with her current life circumstance, which I will explain within this post.

Option 1: Spent 10k on surgery

Option 2: Euthanasia. If this ends up being her only option. We will give her a chance at freedom with a large run of a fox yard before having to put her down ๐Ÿ˜”

Option 3: Find a sanctuary that can take her on along with the expense...this may be hard to find. We currently are having a hard time even placing healthy fur farm rescues in sanctuaries.

We can't afford the surgery with so many animals still at the fur farm that we are raising funds to get out. Unless we magically get a huge donor, but even so the surgery isn't always a 100% success.

Skye has suspected Keratoconjunctivitis. There are two types, one where the inflammation and discharge from the eyes essentially forms a pretty solid crust over them entirely, and the other where it presents the way Skye currently is - with little to no tear production, discharge, massive inflammation and excessive pressure to one or both eyes.

Skye had a 0 on her Schirmer tear test for her right eye & 3mm on her left eye.

She has lots of inflammation in both eyes, including the sclera

Treatment options:
Twice daily topical eye medications; this would not work for her, as she is not handleable unless under anesthesia. The stress of daily handling without it would not be a good quality of life.

Salivary gland transposition surgery, can have complications, including calcification which requires reversal

Implants placed in both eyes, which again can require replacement, and/or removal from complications.

The salivary gland surgery is typically the more successful and long term of the two in canines.

They want to recheck her tear test at minimum in two weeks.

She has also had one (likely) stress induced focal seizure.

Look at this lovely boy waiting to get out of the fur farm. We need $800 to get him out!

Progress update: We raised enough to get two foxes out yesterday! Can we raise enough to get our Friday Fox out?
My hopes were to get 10 out by Sunday, and then pick them up. But unfortunately our forecast has been rainy all week and ongoing the next three days. So we won't have enclosures done by Sunday ๐Ÿ˜ญ But that doesn't mean we stop fundraising to get each one out. Because as long as we have the funds to build their enclosures and the rain stops, the work begins!

โ—Readโ—
You guys have been donating to get them set up in 10'by10' foot enclosures while they wait to get adopted. Each enclosure costs roughly $1,000 to put up.
We asked for a minimum of $800 per fox to help achieve the cost of putting these together.

Our hopes for them is to have a greater future! But in the meantime they are getting soooo much more space than a tiny fur farm cage!

๐ŸฆŠ If you are new here. Almost two years ago we took over custody of a fur farm of 500 foxes. Since then we've spent almost 1million on their care; staffing costs, habitat construction, vet bill, etc.

Well, we basically ran out of funds with 100 foxes left to get out of the fur farm cages. So now our goal is to raise enough to at least build something a little bit better while they await their new homes.

We will continue to do these weekly fundraiser missions to try to get the rest of them out. They have waited long enough!

Ruby update

This past week, we took Ruby to the vet for her 6 month recheck of her kidney values. Unfortunately, it was about what youโ€™d expect. Her lab work shows that she is essentially stage 4 with her kidney disease, and we know we donโ€™t have the longest time left with her.

โ€˜Luckilyโ€™, thus far Ruby has progressed more like a cat would, than a dog, with regards to her diagnosis, but because there is no vernacular knowledge for this next part, we just donโ€™t know how long we have with our sweet, wonderful, beloved Ruby.

It is safe to say that since the moment she came into all our lives here at Saveafox, she has been nothing but sunshine and love, and you can bet that we are going to love, cherish, and make the absolute most of every single moment we have left with Ruby.

At this time, we will not be taking Ruby for any further rechecks; it wonโ€™t change the outcome, or our treatment plan, but we will continue to work closely with our veterinarian to monitor her condition from the rescue.

Chowder update:

We wanted to give you all a quick update on our sweet pup Chowder; his ring worm test has thankfully come back negative. He has several more days of antibiotics to go, before we know for certain what our next steps will be, but we will be sure to update you again soon!

Please donate if you can, we are still trying to catch up on this last week of vet expenses so we can continue to get more foxes out of the fur farm!

โ—Naming Fundraiser โ—
One last naming fundraiser for the fox pups in Florida. These are our permanent residents and will be their permanent names.
We didn't get many votes on the last one so we were trying one last time.
ONLY PAID VOTES COUNT.
Put your voted name in the description for Venmo or PayPal (see links below)

You have 24 hours to vote
(If you already voted a name on our last round, those still count.)

One of the fox pups will end up being paired with our solo Fox Piper. So maybe keep that in mind when deciding on names, as some of these go really good with the name Piper.

Here are your voting options. You have to vote on the paired names.

Archie and Picasso
Archie and Pied
Archie and Swiper
Loki and Thor
Tristan and Ronan
