Operation Vijay: The Kargil War, also known as Operation Vijay, took place between May and July 1999, along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Pakistani soldiers and militants had infiltrated into Indian territory, occupying strategic high points.
Strategic Importance: Point 5140, a peak at an altitude of 17,000 feet, was one of the key positions held by Pakistani forces. Capturing it was crucial for the Indian Army to regain control over the region and to ensure the safety of National Highway 1D, the vital road link between Srinagar and Leh.
