Congratulations to Georgia on winning Junior Eurovision! I think Andria truly deserved it.
I hope the next contest will be much more creative. I couldn’t really connect with this year’s competition from the start. The AI-generated logo was enough to put me off initially. In fact, this was the main reason I didn’t prepare a design video for JESC this year. The AI-generated elements in the postcards were also quite poor. I’m not against using AI, but using it without proper design feels unnecessary. For example, I was okay with the floral visuals added to buildings, but using AI for the children was both visually and ethically wrong.
The title design was bad, and I didn’t like anything about the overall design. The scoreboard was especially disappointing. Instead of simplifying the format for a children’s contest, they made it more complicated, and the vertical layout made it even harder to follow.
I don’t blame the broadcaster for this; even if RTVE was responsible for the design, there should be an authority to step in and say “no” to such choices. As we saw at the end of the broadcast, these designs weren’t even made by the Spanish team. It seems like the EBU is cutting costs on graphics.
Let’s see what Basel has in store for us. I still believe the contest can be as creative as it used to be.
