Half Life Alyx turns five today, and looking back, if the game never came out I don't think I'd have done as much animating as I ended up doing. It may have put the entire series' story forward all of 30 seconds but everything that led to that mind-blowing ending is still legendary work from Valve. Something about HLA really inspired me creatively, and S2FM's quality of life changes just made animating a much less, well, hectic experience, and so it all culminated in what's still my favourite animation I've made thus far, Someone Else.
The Freeman Immortal's story started here (or ended, if you're the non-linear type), and I honestly don't see how that story could've happened if it weren't for the best VR game to date coming out when it did.
The game also greatly changed the trajectory of It's Only Half Life, which is nearing its own fifth anniversary. The ending was originally gonna be a lot more dour and based on Epistle 3, but then Alyx released and gave me enough hope in the series to change it to what it is now. (That one shot of Gordon getting snatched away by a Vortigaunt hand was I think the only leftover from the original ending)
My creative drive is kind of slowing down again I think, I'm working on creative stuff outside of Half Life, outside of youtube even, so I hope whatever Half Life project Valve has cooking at the moment has that spark again. I can't wait to see where things go from here.

This has been four years in the making, but alongside my fun SFM animations I was also telling the story of a Gordon Freeman corrupted by powers beyond his imagining and control.
