A quick intro into my watch journey since someone asked.
My Watch Journey
The Swiss Army quartz was a gift from my better half. Iāve always liked watches from swatches in HS to different fashion watches in college. This was my first Jewelry piece. Need repair now and I just havenāt gotten to it. After this she bought me the āgiantā because I had said the more complications the more I like the watch. Wellā¦ size matters too and itās a bit too heavy to wear. After this I fell into the replica trap for a bit(Daytona, Breightling and A Lange Sohne) but I was extremely frustrated that the chronograph wasnāt functional,, didnāt keep great time and thenā¦ the gold wore off on the Daytona bracelet. I donāt think theyāve left the drawer theyāre in for 20 years, even when moving.
Then we, my wife and I decided I should have a ārealā one and with my work folks I visited an AD for Omega in Chicago (pre home office I was always the long commute guy so wife didnāt join me). I chose the Seamaster because one of our first dates was the Scottish Premiere of Goldeneye, and James Bond wore that watch. We discussed and the wife and I trekked down on a Saturday to buy it. Huge purchase at the time. Sadly the dealer isnāt around anymore.
So I had one real watch and that worked for several years but I got the itch right around the time Jomashop came online. So I went on a bit of a frenzy and in one year bought the Seiko, Hamilton, Edox and the missing Swiss Army. These were great but I felt a little guilty if Iām honest about not supporting an AD even though Iād basically gotten four watches for the price of one. At the same time I had significant Amex points and realized I could use them at Tourneau and could stack gift cards. So I started stalking their website and eventually decided on the Oris. I spent about 200 outside of points and it quelled my guilt.
Over the next 15 years my collecting was sparse. I was gifted the Viceroy from my folks who didnāt understand watches, and towards the middle picked up an Apple Watch and really let the autos rest. It was a time that I actually got into shoes and expanding from one brand to trying over 100 and really valuing the same level of craftsmanship that are in watches. I did about a dozen different straps but stuck with the Apple Watch. The Fossil by my coffee was a 15 year gift from my old company.
It was last year a FB ad got me reengaged with Autos because of the Timex Snoopy. I never realized Timex made Autos and I liked the peanuts. So impulse buy. Then end of last year my wife and I agreed that I could actually get my first real Rolex.
Hunting through the AD program was difficult. Used to online and seeing the inverse of pricing at an AD with the secondary market, and then some of the ADs were awful. I finally found someone I liked and went through the process. She expected the waitlist to be shorter because I wanted the dome on my DJ instead of the popular fluted piece but it still was 5 months.
Iām not particularly patient and sometimes am on eBay. While waitlist waiting I found the Carl F Bucherer smoking deal (no packaging but authenticated) so I gave that a try. I really really like the color.
A couple weeks ago I started browsing Jomashop again. I found the Runabout watch which is my first automatic Chronograph. Iāve always watched FC watches and am glad I have them a try.
So Iām back in the game and like the shoe game Iām finding some groups on FB to share my passion. My new grail is a Ulysse Nardin, but after my kids are off the payroll so to speak.

NYC is hard on shoes.
No idea when it happened but the flap pushed over nice and clean. I think I can do this without a cobbler.
