It's my pleasure to announce that:
www.retailrng.com/
...is finally live and released to the public!

This was a collaborative effort between ‪@imablisy‬ and myself to create up-to-date and easy-to-follow text guides for RNG manipulating Pokemon games on real hardware, without using an custom firmware, cheating devices, or emulator assisted tools.

The goal was to make it approachable to complete newcomers, structured and organized by difficulty.

To start, we only have the GBA-era games ready, but the other generations will be filling up soon!

The most exciting advancement is in the methods and tools for FireRed and LeafGreen. While blisy has handled the website's backend, structure, and look & feel, I've been focused on writing guides and making improvements to Lincoln's web-based tools for Retail FRLG specifically.

It's really a massive step forward in terms of accessibility, and I can't thank Lincoln enough for helping me get these web-tools over the finish line.

I hope you'll give them a try!

We've also got a roadmap of our future plans on the Ko-Fi for the website:

ko-fi.com/post/Retailrng-com-is-live-D1D21EQUNV

We're going to be using Ko-Fi banners right now instead of ads, but that could change in the future (banner ads, no crowd funding).

Goal with this is to add a joint revenue stream outside of youtube, with the hopes to be able to use these funds to pay other contributors to the website for guides.

Please have a look around the site, and let us know what you think. Both feedback-wise insofar as the readability of the guides, the navigation, etc...

Expect more updates soon and videos to go a long with the new gudies.

Now, go RNG some Pokemon!

These are my actual notes from my latest video on FireRed and LeafGreen's Mail Glitch...

I know they look psycho, but when you're using glitches to build an entire competitive team... things get a little complicated. This glitch is like the Pomeg Berry's hyper-dimensional future successor. Its the most fun I've had with a Pokemon glitch in my life, and thats saying something because I've been around since the beginning.

Please, check out my latest video. Its as long as a feature length film, and covers literally everything from Step 1.

Ever wonder why Wild Pokemon in Gen 3 can have the same PID but different IVs? Maybe you've done some RNG manipulation and heard about Method 1, Method 4 etc...

Well, I'll give a quick summary of why, and then give you some options to try and shift the Method of your frame.

When the game is generating a Wild Pokemon, the PID and IVs are generated in chunks.

When these chunks are all generated in sequence, you get Method 1.

METHOD 1: [PID1] [PID2] [IV-1] [IV-2]

However, if some other calculation is going on during this process, there can be a skip in this sequence if a "vBlank" happens at just the right time.

A "Vertical Blank" is essentially the screen resetting to display something else, like for example, the transition between overworld and battle. Except it actually happens every single frame.

So why does Emerald primarily give Wild Method 2, when RS and FRLG are more dominantly Wild Method 1?

Well Emerald added ability checks causing extra calculations during the Pokemon generation.

Even if you AREN'T using a particular lead ability like Synchronize.

The extra checks usually cause a vBlank to line up in between the sequence of generating PID and IVs, creating Method 2.

METHOD 2: [PID1] [PID2] {vBLANK} [IV-1] [IV-2]

However, various random factors can also interfere.

If the vBlank isn't pushed far enough to land between PID and IV generation you more typically get one of methods 4 and 1, which are more common in the other GBA games that do not perform lead ability checks:

METHOD 4: [PID1] [PID2] [IV-1] {vBLANK} [IV-2]
METHOD 1: [PID1] [PID2] [IV-1] [IV-2] {vBLANK}

So why are frames "sticky?" You'd expect it to be more random right? Well there's one additional factor here, that is specific to the Wild RNG.

The game has a particular Nature that it wants, and when the PID of the frame doesn't match, it keeps rolling until it can.

Pokefinder automatically shows the correct Nature, but can't account for the other calculations, so we have to manually select Method.

These "PID Rerolls" are consistent, and often shift things in such a way that no matter what every encounter will give you the same method.

Really large numbers of Re-rolls can even shift things all the way to what we call Method 3.

METHOD 3: [PID1] {vBLANK} [PID2] [IV-1] [IV-2]

..but splitting PID changes Nature, so having this also match intended Nature is ULTRA RARE. You have to do crazy stuff to find them.

So what does this mean practically for RNG manips? Well in Emerald you control what Lead Ability you use, and Synchronize is powerful.

A Lead Synchronizer matching the nature of your target, you'll likely get more potential frames to aim for AND potentially shift the Method.

Another option, is using an Egg Lead. This actually cancels out all the Ability Checks, so this might also be an option on a frames refusing to hit the IVs you want.

It really depends on how many of those "PID Rerolls" are happening, so its not 100%, but its worth a shot.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. Someone asked about this in my discord today, and I wrote out this long response...

And thanks to Shao and Mucks for all their work studying this, and helping me understand.

Any questions? :)

Hope you enjoyed the No Bottlecaps launch stream! If you missed out here is the VOD:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN3Nz...

we have THREE videos already posted, with more on the way starting tomorrow and daily for the foreseeable future.

youtube.com/@NoBottlecaps

Blisy and I wanted to make competitive content, but it didn't seem like a great fit on either of our channels individually. So we're kicking things off with a mix of Showdown and Wi-fi battling across the generations.

Lots of fun collaborative stuff is also coming down the pipe, where we Wi-Fi battle other content creators, and I think that'll wind up being fun and unique avenue for future stuff.

So subscribe to No Bottlecaps, watch the videos, and stay tuned!

Now that this is launched, I'm going back to my UNENCRYTPED research watch video on watch page

As is customary with my big videos, the first try at Title & Thumb were doing VERY poorly. So I made a little update to the Title\Text and added a very cool Mr. Mime and Farfetch'd. What do you think?

Friend of the channel ‪@Yoggtwo‬ made a guide on how to get Shiny Wild Pokemon using Sweet Scent RNG in Fire Red\Leaf Green, on actual cartridge. A very helpful follow up to his similar guide on how to do a Shiny Starter in these games as well. Check it out!

I know I've been inactive for the last month or so, but this number really means a lot.

Lately I've been paralyzed by perfectionism and fear of failure, and lost sight of how far I've come.

Despite not having any finished videos to show for it, I have been working on stuff in the background little-by-little.

Most of my energy is going towards being healthier, in hopes it makes working more consistent in the future.

Once the engine starts running again, look out.

If my content inspired you to try Pokemon glitches or RNG, I'd love to hear your story.
