Did you know that Watsonville sometimes smells like manure? I have a fun trivia nugget to share with you. In the latest video about Orion's situation, I mentioned Watsonville, California. That's where Orion (and Meade) headquarters was until July 9th, shown in this photo. Their office is right next to the smallish Watsonville Airport. In a previous career, I wrote a science fiction novel called RED HOPE that takes place in Watsonville (and on MARS). If you want to learn why it sometimes smells like manure, feel free to pick up the ebook for 99 cents from Amazon. These are my affiliate links:

Telescoping temporarily on hold. Nasty storm took half our tree Tuesday. I've been a lumberjack for two days, but that's okay.

QUESTION: When do you normally watch? When would be the best time to publish the final episode of the Telekit restoration/test process?

The Telekit mirror and filter test is going VERY well. The QuickSwitch filter system is just... awesome. To my surprise, the Moon looks best with the 80A bluish filter. I'm thinking of using this as a basis for a new cover for my scifi book series Red Hope, found on Amazon (here's my affiliate link, which sends a few pennies my way): amzn.to/3ynkJIu

I had the pleasure of collimating a friends laser collimator tonight. Should be good for now! This is the view from a 6 foot tall ladder.

Look how shiny! Unfortunately, it shouldn't be. Very disappointed. I've been using the Rustoleum Camouflage Ultra-Flat Black spray cans for years on telescope parts. Strong, tough, truly non-reflective. So I bought a quart of it to paint the inside of this mirror box. Turns out that the quart-size is different. It's acrylic and, despite the same can and "ultra-black" label, it is a satin finish. The quart can doesn't mention acrylic. I have about four hours of sanding, masking and repainting ahead of me. Sigh....

I restore broken telescopes, all the while sharing tips, fixes and reviews. I also show how to use simple smartphones to take great astrophotos. Join me on the adventure...
