About
Musicians of Abu Al-Gheit Ensemble are Sufi members of the Tariqa al-Ahmadiyya al-Ghitaniya founder in the XIX century in the Delta of Egypt by Hassan Abu Gheit.
Their merged zikr and Sufi practice with the zar cult coming from Upper Egypt. The Ghitani texts are situated in the same context as the lyrics which characterize Islamic religious chants, the musical forms reflect many elements belonging to the Egyptian shaabi (popular) song, both religious and secular, with the addition of the polyrhythmic forms of the Egyptian and Sudanese zar.
