It's truly heartbreaking to see the utter devastation of Western North Carolina from Hurricane Helene. It's a place I love exploring and photographing, and has been featured in numerous videos on my Channel.

And while my area North Carolina came away with minimal damage, so many others were not lucky. The link below is to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund which is accepting contributions which help with the unmet needs of hurricane victims here in North Carolina.

New video has officially been posted! It is a bit different than my typical videos, but I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did surveying the bumble bees!

Yesterday, it was a gorgeous day to get outside with my Master Naturalist class. We had the privilege to explore an area of land currently owned by the Piedmont Land Conservancy that is next to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Their goal is to have this land eventually be a part of the National Park, so it was fun to explore something a bit untouched that few people in current times have explored. If only it weren't so foggy and cloudy, we were told the views are amazing at the top.

Pic 1: Me at the top of one of the ridges
Pic 2: A gall, which is the response to an insect on a leaf, a leaf probably from an oak.
Pic 3: small mushrooms that apparently glow in the dark, I forgot the name of them, but it was a fun find.
Pic 4: Learning about mushrooms from one of our 2 instructors, Ken.

Over the weekend, I collected Bumble bees as part of the Bumble Bee Atlas Project I am volunteering with this summer. This was definitely a new experience for me, but it was a lot of fun collecting data that will be used to help save the bumble bees. Not only did I have to capture the bumble bees, put them on ice, and then photograph them (photography skills and my new macro lens coming in clutch), I also had to id the plants they were visiting and the bumble bees themselves. I ended up capturing 2 Lemon Cuckoo (Bombus citrinus) and the 6 Common Eastern (Bombus impatiens). I also captured 4 carpenter bees, but they weren't the target species.

I am happy to report, I didn't get stung and all 12 bees I collected flew off after they warmed up from their "on ice adventure"! πŸπŸ“Έ

Oh and the picture of the bumble bee is a Lemon Cuckoo. πŸ˜€

Sometimes I can be pretty indecisive with which composition of a subject I like best and these two images of the Wild Blue Phlox is a prime example. So, I am curious which composition you like best?

Both of these photos are featured in my latest video.

Took advantage of the current Nikon sale and added two new lenses to my bag! The 17-28mm f/2.8 ultra-wide angle lens and the 105mm macro lens! Super excited to get these out in the field!!

Also, I was finally able to edit the photos and video I recorded over 3 weeks ago and it will be published tomorrow, Sunday at 8am EST!

Thanks for your patience. I found myself having to fly back to Nebraska for a family emergency (thankfully everything turned out well with that), but that meant I was unable to get a video to you sooner. But, I was able to take advantage of my time and took lots of photos of wildlife and a bit of the Nebraska scenery, which I think amounts to 3 videos that I recorded over the 2 1/2 weeks I was there. So, look for those in the coming weeks! πŸ˜ƒπŸ“Έ
