Whatâs your Fear Index?
Iâm excited to announce that over the next few weeks, Iâm going to be talking about the number one thing that holds climbers back.
Itâs not strength.
Itâs not technique.
And itâs not how hard you try.
Itâs actually fear. Itâs fear of falling, fear of getting injured, and fear of the unknown.
Iâve been working with bold trad climber Hazel Findlay on Altitudeâs newest course, Overcoming Fear of Falling.
To gear up for the course launch, weâve created a free email mini-course that can be delivered right to your inbox starting September 25th!
In this mini-course, youâll learn:
-What causes fear in climbing (when it comes to your mind, itâs not always about physical safety)
-3 common fear âsolutionsâ that can actually ingrain fear (itâs almost certain youâve been given this damaging advice at least once)
-A safe, reliable, tried-and-tested antidote to fear of falling (thousands of climbers have overcome their fear this way)
-Signs of stress every belayer should know and look for so they can better support their climbing partners through tricky situations
-The complete 5-Step System to overcome fear of falling for good
When you sign up for the free mini-course, youâll also be able to discover your personal Fear Index with our custom assessment. Your Fear Index is a number you can use to find out how much fear holds you back in climbing and how you compare to your friends and fellow climbers.
The Fear Index shows you how much you could benefit from working on your fear (and youâll benefit a lot more than you might think).
And the good news is: it is possible to overcome your fear of falling â and not only this, you can actually begin to enjoy falling.
During the minicourse (starting on September 25), weâll show you how! Youâll discover whatâs possible in your climbing, common âsolutionsâ that just donât work (and sometimes make it worse!), and the antidote to fear of falling.
You can click the link in our bio or head to altitudeclimbing.com/fear/ to get the free mini-course and find out your personal Fear Index.

**Climbing technique course announcement**Â
Throughout my decades inside climbing gyms and out at the crag, Iâve heard countless climbers say that they wish that they had better climbing technique. Â
When we started Altitude last year we talked to climbers from around the world in order to create courses they crave. We found that hundreds would love to deeply understand the subtleties of footwork, body positioning, hip placement, and dynamic movements, and to feel more confident on both slabby and steep terrain.
Â
Thatâs why, behind the scenes, we created a complete climbing technique course with Dave MacLeod. Â
This course covers all the essential and advanced climbing techniques inside and out. Youâll learn how to execute different techniques properly through hundreds of detailed examples and demonstrations, how to identify and overcome the technical weaknesses that hold you back from progressing through the grades, and when to use different techniques based on the terrain, shape, and positioning of the holds on the wall. Â
In case you arenât familiar with Dave yet, I consider him one of the best climbing technique coaches, and he is recognized as one of the best all-around climbers in the world.
Having climbed 8C boulders, 9a sport climbs, sketchy and dangerous E11 trad and XII,12 mixed routes, and even an 8b+ free solo, itâs safe to say he trusts his climbing technique with his life.
This course is something truly special, and will officially open its doors on Wednesday, April 24th.
To learn more about the course and get access to a free 6-part video series from the course, head over to altitudeclimbing.com/dave-macleod-sneak-peek/
In the lesson, Dave breaks down a unique footwork technique that you can use to climb better in your very next session, and make âimpossibleâ moves feel easy.
I hope youâll check it out!

*** Today is a big day for climbing! ***Â
After months of work, Iâm super excited to share Adam Ondraâs first-ever lead climbing course with you.
We created this course with Adam to help you climb harder routes than you ever imagined, push beyond your physical limit, and show yourself what youâre truly capable of (without the need to get any stronger).
Imagine the next time itâs your turn on the wallâŚ
âŚyou look up at a route a whole grade above what you ever climbed before and think, âI got this.â
âŚyou climb the route with newfound confidence, flow, and intuition (and get less pumped than you expected)
âŚand once you send it, your climbing partner turns to you with a look of confusion and admiration, and asks âWhen did you get so strong!?â
I am confident this will happen to you once you go through Adamâs course because weâve now seen it happen over and over again with the climbers that Adam coached.
Iâve been waiting for this day for a long time and can't wait for you to check it out.

I hope to see you inside! Â

*** We made an online course with Adam Ondra! ***
Over the past year, Iâve been working on a new project. Â
Itâs called Altitude, a climbing platform with online courses taught by the best climbers in the world (like Adam Ondra, Alex Megos, and Daniel Woods to name a few).
On February 7th, weâll be releasing our first online climbing course with the one and only, Adam Ondra. Â
Itâs unlike anything youâve ever seen.Â
Adam worked together with our team for over 6 months and brought the same dedication and passion he has for climbing to the creation of the course. And the result is truly something special.
Want to check it out?Â
Go to altitudeclimbing.com/adam-ondra-sneak-peek/
Youâll be able to watch a sample lesson from the course, get more details about it, and be the first in line when the doors open.Â

*** Bouldering Blueprint is open again! ***
And this time registration will stay open year-round! Bouldering Blueprint is my online course for beginner to intermediate climbers. Itâs the course I wish I had access to when I first started climbing.
My goal is to give you a solid foundation for climbing. You are going to learn how to improve your body positioning and footwork on slabs, how to climb overhangs and roofs, and how to confidently approach dynamic boulders.
I will show you all of this through examples with real climbers of all ability levels, where I guide them to overcome whatever is keeping them from progressing.
I will also teach you how to start training your fingers in a safe way, how to become a stronger climber through different exercises both on and off the wall, and how to add more structure to your training so you can get the most out of your sessions at the gym and maximize your progress.
Finally, youâll learn how you find the right beta for your body type and climbing style so you can send harder boulders in less time, and finally stop blaming everything on reach ;)
Plus, if you join before Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 11:59 US ET youâll have an opportunity to get coached by me as part of Online Bouldering Clinic - a special reopening bonus.
Head to boulderingblueprint.com to learn more!

In the course, we cover everything from buying your first pair of climbing shoes, to expanding your technique toolkit, gently building finger strength, playful exercises and drills you can use to warm up or train, and how to project routes and quickly move up through the grades.
So much has gone into making this course possible and Iâm really proud of the final result.
So if youâre ready to take your climbing to the next level and have even more fun at the gym, I hope you check it out!

***Big announcement***
Last December I posted a survey asking you about your climbing experience.
It was your input that then shaped one of the most ambitious projects I've undertaken over the last couple of years.
And now, after many months of work behind the scenes, I couldn't be more excited to share:
My first ever climbing online course called Bouldering Blueprint will be released on September 20th!
To be first in line when enrolment opens and to get an exclusive sneak peak head over to www.boulderingblueprint.com/
The course is designed for beginners to intermediate climbers and will help you develop better technique, feel stronger on the wall, and send harder grades than ever before.
In the course I show you exactly what to do in the gym to get stronger, how to approach each session to have fun and get better, and explore climbing in whole new ways.
I've poured my heart into this and can't wait to share it with you!
