Myth? Yes or No?

It is a myth, but not just any bone will do.

❌ Never give cooked bones to dogs
❌ Never feed machine cut bones
❌ Never feed bones that are small enough to cause a choking hazard
❌ Never feed weight-bearing bones
❌ Never feed turkey legs due to their propensity to splinter
❌ Never feed beef bones as they are too dense to feed whole

So, what kind of bones ARE OK to give a dog?

✅ Raw meaty bones that are the appropriate size for your dog
🐓 Chicken necks are good for small dogs and cats
🦃 Turkey necks are good for medium sized dogs
🦴 In general, a bone that is equivalent to the size of your dogs head is a good place to start (for cats, chicken wings are a good starting point)

Why would I feed my dog 🐶 raw bones?

Raw meaty bones (RMBs) provide essential nutrients (like calcium, phosphorus, and trace minerals), dental care, exercise the jaw, and are great for mental stimulation. RMBs have meat and connective tissue that add nutrients and aid in the digestion of the bone itself.

RMBs are broken down into EDIBLE bones and RECREATIONAL bones. Edible bones are designed to be fully ingested, whereas recreational bones, such as marrow bones, are designed to chew on but not be fully ingested.

Always supervise your dog when you give them bones and work with them to train them how to properly eat the bones (to not gulp them!)

Do you feed RMBs to your dog or cat?

While some will consider eating grass to be a condition known as pica, I disagree because there is a nutritional benefit to grass. Watch the full video here: https://youtu.be/-pEs9b9LRL0
