World Drowning Prevention Day 🌊

Drowning is a silent killer that claims too many lives. Let's make a splash in preventing it! By taking simple precautions, we can significantly reduce the risk of drowning.

Always supervise children near water, whether it's a pool, beach, or bathtub. Teach children to swim and water safety skills. Wear life jackets when boating or engaging in water sports.
Install barriers around pools. And if you find yourself in a water emergency, remember to stay calm and float until help arrives.

Let's work together to create a safer world for everyone.

According to the United Nations, there were 11,200 reported rape cases in Nigeria in 2020.
In this post, here are ten ways you can support Rape survivors.
10 Ways to Support Rape Survivors.
1. Believe them: Survivors often question their own stories. Believing their experience is crucial for their healing process.
2. Offer unconditional support: Let them know you're there for them, without judgment. Your presence matters.
3. Respect their privacy: Avoid sharing their story without their consent. Their trauma is personal.
4. Educate yourself: Learn about sexual assault, its impact, and how to support survivors effectively.
5. Avoid victim-blaming: Never place blame on the survivor. It's the perpetrator who is at fault.
6. Encourage professional help: Therapy, counseling, and support groups can be invaluable resources.
7. Be patient: Healing takes time. Avoid pressuring survivors to share their experience or recover quickly.
8. Use supportive language: Words matter. Avoid re-traumatizing language.
9. Validate their feelings: Let them know their emotions are valid and understandable.
10. Break the silence: Speak out against rape culture and advocate for survivors' rights.

In the Quran, we are reminded of various ways to give to those in need, such as zakat (charity), sadaqah (voluntary giving), and ihsan (excellence in giving).

Let us strive to embody these values in our daily lives, whether through donating to charitable causes, volunteering our time, or simply offering a smile and a kind word to those around us.

May our giving be a source of joy, blessings, and unity for us all.

Jumu'ah Mubarak from GenDi!

As Ramadan graces us with its blessings, Gender Development Initiative wishes everyone a Ramadan filled with spiritual growth and unity. In the spirit of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185), "Ramadan is the month in which was sent down the Quran, as a guide to mankind, also clear signs for guidance and judgment," may this holy month bring clarity, compassion, and shared understanding. Ramadan Mubarak to all, may your prayers be answered, and your hearts be filled with peace.

In this sacred month, Gender Development Initiative echoes the principles of Surah Al-Hujurat (49:13), emphasizing equality and respect for all. Ramadan serves as a reminder to foster a compassionate society, upholding everyone's rights and dignity. May our collective efforts during this blessed time lead us towards a more inclusive and harmonious world.
