Jehovah's Witnesses have published soooo many articles over the years condemning the goddess Astarte/Ishtar/Inanna, almost always based on a now-discredited 1853 anti-Catholic pamphlet titled "The Two Babylons," published by a Presbyterian theologian named Alexander Hislop. I thought this Instagram post was really interesting, the nonbinary/transgender associations with Inanna. Trans people are nothing new.

Popped onto j-w.com for a second and found a cool mini-life-story from a former circuit overseer. I didn't see it posted over on reddit so figured I'd drop a link to it here.

Wanted to get some feedback from viewers. Historically, in my research-y videos I always put screenshots of all the literature I quote from, to show I'm not making it up. But I know for me personally, I tend to watch long videos more like podcasts, listening but not watching the screen. Since inserting all the screenshots is one of the more time-consuming parts of making a video, I'm curious if people find value in them? Should I keep doing it, or is not that important? Thanks!

Been exploring the internet rabbit hole/fan theory that Whitney Houston's mom wasn't Cissy Houston, but singer and actress Teresa Graves. The JW connection: Teresa later converted to JWs when she was 25; her life story is in the 4/22/77 Awake. Seems like it's not impossible, but without more proof it's hard to say for sure. What's your take?

Always cool to see artists release works about their journeys out of high-demand religions. David Archuleta just dropped a new song, "Hell Together." David left the LDS church in 2022, after coming out as queer the year before. In 2023 his LDS mom left the church as well. The song is to his mom, referencing her words to him that "[I]f I have to live without you, I don't want to live forever...we'll go to hell together."

Welcome! I was one of Jehovah's Witnesses for 30 years, before eventually leaving. I was a second generation Witness, ministerial servant, regular pioneer, and spent the final part of my JW career in a foreign language congregation (Spanish). On this channel, I talk about a variety of topics having to do with the religion.
I named the channel The Blue Envelope because we talk about things which aren't always common knowledge. Special blue envelopes were used by congregations to send reports of judicial committees to Watchtower headquarters. The distinct color ensured that women working in Bethel mailrooms wouldn't open the correspondence. Service Department eyes only!
