The older I get the more I realise that,

ITS REALLY NOT AS EASY AS IT FIRST APPEARS.

Take your time studying the situation you’re analysing.

Often, the truth is nuanced and complex.

...and contrary to popular belief, two opposing ends of the same ideas often hold true at the same time.

Not everybody that is watching you is cheering.

Not everybody that is cheering you on is genuinely happy for you…

History is clear:

In the final analysis the people always win.
In the end, those using violence to deny others justice and peace, themselves suffer immeasurable judgement & disdain from the rest of society.

And they scurry along trying to convince their future generations that they were the “good ones” all along. But history has no blank pages.

Do the courageous thing: speak the truth. Stand on principle.

Be on the right side of history.

We talk often about the fear of failure.

But don’t underplay the very real fear of success too.

Things for which there is no substitute:

1. Paying attention to detail.

2. Work. There is no way around this. Just get the work done.

3. Take yourself seriously. If you take yourself seriously, society will get the memo.

4. Be impeccable with your word. If you don't mean it or can't do it, don't say it.

5. Be kind as a default. But if somebody abuses your kindness, don't be shy to be an a**hole.
Balance.

In every challenge, there’s a nuance between what’s simply ‘good’ and what’s truly ‘effective.’ While ‘good’ may satisfy for the moment, ‘effective’ creates lasting impact and meaningful outcomes.

In this week’s episode of Ideas That Matter, I share wisdom and nuggets I have learnt from mentor figures over the course of my life. Available on Spotify and Apple Podcast.
