The National Biodiversity Institute (INBio) is a scientific non governmental organization established in 1989.
The Institute generates and gathers knowledge on Costa Ricas biological diversity to promote a greater awareness of its value in order to attain its conservation and the improvement of the quality of life of our society. INBio popularizes this knowledge to promote the sustainable utilization of the countrys biotic resources on diverse fields such as medicine, agriculture, industry or tourism; or the strategic decision making for conservation or education policies.
INBio works in close collaboration with Costa Ricas Government, through agreements and specific projects with the Ministries of Environment, of Foreign Relations, Education, Science and Technology, and Agriculture, or other public and private institutions.
