At the hive life 2023 conference I had a couple mentions about this video. It didn’t get a lot of attention when I first posted it but it was suggested to me to bring it back up.

With winter here and it still being the off season for most beekeepers, I hope some of you find a new book to read from it.

This was interesting, I wasn’t surprised to see that Russian bees performed favorably. I was particularly glad to see that Russians proved to be no more defensive than other types, and in some cases less so.

I’m going to have a live chat tonight at 7:00pm central time.

Topics will start off with summer nectar sources, how to improve your honey crop, agricultural flows, dealing with the heat…

And whatever else you guys want to talk about!

Crowd questions trump my topics so let’s talk bees!

* I would appreciate Questions being sent in CAPS during the live chat*

Hey guys, I just uploaded a new video on push in cage results!

I accidentally made it public while I was still editing it and then made it private. Unfortunately I think I messed up the notifications/algorithm or something 😝

Here’s a link, It’s a great and successful technique!

When to super / How to get comb drawn / How to use a queen excluder

This hands on class offers second year and beyond beekeepers detailed information about when to super their hives, how to get comb drawn (foundation and foundation less), as well as how to properly use a queen excluder.

The class will include: an overview of seasonal management issues, specifically honey production, and swarm prevention. The goal is for attendees to develop a better understanding of honey bee behavior and management during a nectar flow, and how to make the most of it.

This class is interactive and hands on. I do take questions during the event and encourage attendees to ask their questions as they come up.

Attendance is $40, beekeeping protective equipment is required. I have a limited number of suits available for those that contact me to reserve them.

Please RSVP your name, the date you would like to attend, and the number of attendees to Messenger or via text.

The goal is for students to gain confidence in splitting their colonies and to develop a better understanding of honey bee behavior and sustainable beekeeping.

We will be splitting hives in this class to demonstrate some techniques. We will discuss ideal times to split, the how, when, and why.

Attendance is $40, please RSVP the date you would like to attend, your name and phone number to my messenger account or via text.

Beekeeping protective equipment is required. I have a limited number of suits available for those that contact me to reserve them.
