STATE OF THE CHANNEL ADDRESS - March 8th, 2024

The YT channel only continues to exist for posterity as the platform isn't small content creator friendly anymore, unless you're making woke content or content promoting certain negative political ideologies, such as socialism. And worse, YouTube will defend and protect these content makers even in their comments, even if the comments are stating the obvious and not violating YT's comment rules.

I am infrequently, still making new video content, see the PSO Archive website for where to find it at, because it's not on YT, nor do I ever plan to put it up here.

As for news regarding the existing content of this channel, it's slowly being eroded away by copyright claims. Yes, still getting new copyright claims against videos that have been on the channel for ten years! No, I don't mind copyright claims against the old TV commercials and such as long as it's the actual studio or company that owns the rights, but as anyone with a channel is sadly aware YT will basically allow anyone to claim ownership of anything, even foreign anonymous entities! For videos where the claimant, whom it's not possible to contest by the way, is such a obvious scammer I am just deleting those videos. It's one thing for a legitimate content owner to put a claim on a video to gain monetization, but it's outright criminal that Alphabet/Google allows blatant scam organizations to claim and monetize content, and I will not allow them to profit from this channel.

As far as archiving of old TV commercials, intros, outros, and commercial bumps goes, it's dead. I have stopped as this copyright claiming non-sense has effectively brought the media preservation community to its' proverbial knees. Yes, you can digitize and upload such thing here to YouTube still, however you run the risk of copyright claim and copyright strikes, so it's just not worth the effort.

And much as I hate to say it, I would have liked to monetize my channel for original content, but on YouTube that requires completely removing all non-original content and then keep up with ridiculous rules to then keep monetization that seem to change every six months. In short, being a YouTube content creator just isn't worth the trouble, especially for someone like me who was very much wanted to engage in media preservation and the occasional bit of original content. All other platforms have taken a even stricter approach and don't want content creators to upload any non-original content, and frankly I'm fine with that as they also don't impose stupid rules for monetization of your original content works, so it's a rather acceptable trade-off as far as I am concerned.

Anyways, hope to see comments from those of you on the other platform in the future.

STATE OF THE CHANNEL ADDRESS - January 2nd, 2020

Well COPPA is officially in effect and YouTube did not make it easy to go through and mark videos for compliance as they had promoted they had in their own stupid tutorial. What should have taken no more than a few minutes to do had marking the videos actually worked as they'd advertised in reality ultimately took me about five hours to do! Can;t imagine how much time persons with way more videos than this channel have have been through marking their videos, uhg!

Sadly, I ended up removing many of the videos. Some were due to concerns over the extreme ambiguity of interpretation of the COPPA rules, which are vague and open to highly subjective interpretation. And others because they had been hit with copyright claims that were blocking them from viewing in pretty much every English speaking country. Most such copyright claims were for trailers, opening credits, and closing credits, so while disappointing it wasn't a huge surprise. But there was one such claim for an old TV commercial! Specifically the TV commercial for which was titled here on YouTube as:
"1987 Commercial - I Love Lucy / WHNS 21"
That was a very early upload to the channel wayback on September 18th, 2013. The copyright claimant was CBS, the legitimate rights owner for "I Love Lucy", but why claim on a local broadcaster's heavily marked and logo'd 33 year old thirty-second TV spot is something I find utterly crazy. And as it was monetized & blocked in 248 countries (yes, seriously), it has become the only TV commercial on the channel to date I've had to remove.

IRL Still isn't going so hot for me, 2019 was a very bad year. As such the channel was neglected for all of 2019. Computer issues, no job, car issues, bills to pay, family drama, and so on. I can not make any promises as to whether the channel will receive any new content this year either as most of 2019's drama is still ongoing at this point, but fingers crossed for a positive upturn that will free me up to resolve all of the issues I'm presently dealing with. And we still have to consider the potential for issues with COPPA which will be a major factor from now onward as to how to deal with archival content. Even the content I'd originally made the channel for, discussion and documentary of Phantasy Star Online (a major project I'd yet to really tackle) falls into the dreaded grey-area of "might appeal to kids under 14, and why not it's a video game franchise still kicking around today. <sigh>

STATE OF THE CHANNEL ADDRESS - December 8th, 2018

Removed over a dozen videos from the channel tonight due to copyright claims blocking them from being viewed globally, which was putting the channel in a bad standing status. But post deletion the channel is now in "Good" standing, yay? There was no point in leaving those videos on the channel if no one can view them anymore, so no harm in deleting them off of it for good. Frankly, I'm much more a fan of the actual right owners filing claims and requesting the videos to be blocked, which was the case with the videos in question, than having claims like PBS had where they counted as strikes against the account and effectively put the account on suspension as happened three (or was it four?) years ago. Videos removed were mostly Disney related, but also one episode of 'The Berenstein Bears", and a couple of anime opening/closing sequences.

Many of the videos on the channel now have copyright claims with the rights owners opting to monatize the videos rather than request that they be blocked or removed, and I am perfectly fine with that. As you're all doubtless aware I have precious few original content videos on the channel, maybe twenty or so is all, none of which are monatized as I don't see much point to doing such with what little I've got. This channel is more of a sideline hobby for me than anything. Yes, I want to preserve the old TV bumps, commercials, and PSAs as I do see it as historical conservation relative to the recent past, and none of those are things I own the rights to nor would dream of attempting to make a profit off of.

Is that to say though that I will never monatize the original content videos uploaded to the channel, no. That is something I will very likely do in the future if I decide to pursue any of the ideas for channel shows/episodes of a more substantial nature. But really, and much to the dismay of many a old PSO fan, the only video I've actually made relevant to the channel name thus far has been the one about the Phantasy Star 0 servers coming to a close and that was quite a while back... using a MiniDV Camcorder for that matter even.

I am at a standstill with digitizing data from my VHS tapes presently though as my VCR that was used for all of the digitized video on the channel developed a tracking issue and requires repair. I did pick up a 2nd VCR just this past fall from a yard sale, but not had time to give it a good cleaning (and boy does it need it!) and test it yet, so that's either going to be a viable VCR or a 2nd S-Video VCR in need of service.

As far as future original content goes, I have several different ideas floating about, one I even made some test videos for (almost two years ago) and will likely upload at some point. The idea of a original video opening bump has been suggested by several persons, and that is a project that I clearly need to work on before going forward on any substantial original video content clearly. And to be clear a opening bump of five to ten seconds maximum, anything longer than that and it may as well be a full blown channel intro... and frankly I find myself clicking the seek bar to skip those on most everyone else's videos, so why would I want to annoy my viewers with anything that long?

As far as the concepts for original video go, yes...
1. A series of discussions and reviews on all things PSO (Phantasy Star Online) are obviously something that have been in conceptual planning since even before the creation of the channel. Hence the channel naming.
2. Product reviews of stuff I find interesting, not paid reviews mind, just stuff I feel would make for interesting review content. The test videos I made two years ago were of this nature.
3. Local history. Don't want to give to much away on the development thought processes for this video series as this is something I definitely want to do in the near future.
4. And this one is the least original idea among them all. A series of videos on video game and anime collecting. Yes, there are already more videos on these two topics here on YouTube than you can watch in your lifetime... but I just feel I could still make some worthwhile videos on these subject matters.
5. Suggest something. Nothing in life is completely set in stone except for death, I'm always open to suggestions.

So yeah, real life stuff is the biggest hold up at moment to getting new videos made up, and creating some sort of a intro bump is the secondary hold up....

Comments, suggestions, advice... or maybe you'd just like to say "hi"?
Looking forward to reading everyone's comments.

Thank you to all of you who have subscribed over the years, I'm touched you think highly enough of this channel to do such. I hope to get more videos up in the coming year as there is only about three weeks remaining in 2018 and they're going to be rather loaded with matters to deal with irl.
