Hopes and Fears was released 20 years ago today! Thank you to everyone who supported us back then, and everyone who has joined along the way - you have given us the most incredible lives, being able to go out and play these songs (and more) night after night. We are so grateful, and can’t wait to celebrate with so many of you at the O2 tonight 🎉🪩🎶

We first played in Amsterdam in April 2004, and even by then it seemed that we had a passionate following in the Netherlands. We knew that the Paradiso was a legendary club, and so it felt like a big deal to be able to play there later that same year. The show felt intense and celebratory, like a homecoming for us after six months during which our lives had completely changed. Those couple of hours represented perfectly the beautiful and head-spinning journey we had been on. Live At The Paradiso 29.11.04 will be available exclusively for Record Store Day 2024 on 19th April.

Here are some songs that inspired Somewhere Only We Know. Some of them - like Slide Away, Northern Sky and Autumn Almanac - were just ‘in the air’ at the time and I feel influenced the strong sense of place or the emotional energy of the song. Some (Heroes, Is This It?, Let Down) had a driving momentum we definitely aspired to - we always felt we needed ‘one more rocker’ in our set when we were playing in the pubs of London. Others are songs I can hear musical references to in the melody and the production - I’ll leave you to work out which bits!

The gig we have coming up at Shepherds Bush Empire has reminded us that it’s high time we added The Night Sky single that we recorded for ‪@warchilduk‬ back in 2007 to streaming services. Enjoy!

We’ve been in awe of the work ‪@warchilduk‬ do for such a long time and have had the pleasure of working with them at several events and of course on The Night Sky single back in 2007. So we’re really looking forward to playing a show to help raise money for them at one of our all-time favourite venues, Shepherds Bush Empire, on the 20th of February. Presale is 18th January and general on sale is 19th January. #BRITsWeek

After a long-running obsession with Flaming Lips’ The Soft Bulletin it was a deep honour and mega treat to go to Tarbox Road Studios in upstate New York and work with our hero Dave Fridmann on these versions of Disconnected and Sovereign Light Café. We released them for Record Store Day back in 2019 and now feels like a good time to make them available to stream as well. Working with Dave was an inspirational experience and these remain two of our favourite Keane recordings. Non-musical highlights of the trip included drinking beer on tap in Dave’s living room and going for accidental really long runs in the snow. We love you Dave.
