Here’s an update from the devs of Alaskan Road Truckers this morning:
As many of you know, a serious issue with disappearing saves was recently discovered on PlayStation 5. The team investigated and discovered that it was a result of save files reaching their size limits on the platform, and as a short-term workaround, we deployed an update to increase those sizes while we spent more time investigating the underlying cause. Many of you weren’t happy that we didn’t have a fix at the time, and that it only applied to new saves. For that, we apologise, but these things take time.
We now know that some game components and how they are represented in save data, like truck cables, supports, engine compartment items and the microwave oven were being saved multiple times. After each exit and re-entry into the game, this caused the save file size to increase, and if the player had more trucks this number was multiplied.
Right now, we have a fix for the issue that will reduce save files and stop them from growing in unintended ways, and it is being tested. We need to ensure that in reducing the file sizes it is not causing loss of other data, and we also need to confirm whether this will work to restore existing save files that hit the old limit and found themselves unable to progress.
We’re sure many of you will be wondering why this wasn’t caught in testing. We do test all our games, extensively, but with the constant updates and fixes made behind the scenes with new and improved builds, individual save files do not typically reach the length of playtime that our community was reporting. On PlayStation 5, it was typically somewhere between 30-60 hours to experience it. We even had our first report of the issue on Xbox Series X, appearing at 180 hours (that’s a trucking legend!).
We hope to get this fix out sometime next week and then we will monitor your feedback, but we need to put more time into testing this. Our aim is to restore your confidence in the game and keep you trucking long into the future.

We have been investigating reports from a small number of players about lost saves on PS5. While we don't currently have a permanent fix, we have pushed a workaround to PS5 that increases the save file size, a temporary resolution. We advise PS5 players start a new save file, as the workaround does not apply to existing saves.

Save File Workaround
- [PS5] Increased the save file size to avoid rare instances of the save file being deleted after exceeding the reserved disk space. The new save file size only applies to save files created after the patch. If you plan to continue for dozens of hours on a single profile, it is recommended to start a new save.
- [PS5, XSX, XSS] When deleting a profile, the corresponding additional saves (backup, logbook) will now be removed as well.

**General**
- Fixed memory spikes occurring in the Truck Dealer that could lead to crashes
- Fixed the Truck Dealer selling tab which could not work properly when selected using the bumper buttons (incl. inability to sell trucks)
- Fixed the unresponsive HUD distance meter
**PS5**
- Due to freeing additional memory space, the amount of pop-in in certain areas of the game can now be reduced
