We'll be traveling to Dominca at the end of January to see the sperm whales. Scuba diving with them is not allowed, but you can snorkel. You are guaranteed to see the local pods of Sperm whales there, so it's an exciting opportunity.

We will also be planning to spend a week hiking/visiting and potentially scuba diving around Dominca itself. So, about 2 weeksish, but the details are not firmed out all the way.

Due to the exclusivity of the permits to see the sperm whales, the price for that leg is 4,770 USD through the operator. The way I see it is that it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, however. Sperm whales are not easy to see.

We have one seat available for our trip if anyone is interested in joining us!

Shout out to those cold water divers out there! Its been about 8 years since we've been dry suit certified but we've lagged behind in our interest in getting deep into it as we had for cold water. We've been recently reinvigorated and invested into basically an entirely new set of gear for cold water scuba diving for diving around Seattle! Getting back into cold water dry suit diving is like re-learning everything you know about scuba diving! Worthwhile though as it challenges you to improve skills beyond warm water needs and learn new things which ultimately rounds you out as a diver. Worth the effort and the journey is ongoing!

For anyone interested, we are renting the whole boat, Ferox May 4-17 2026. Its off to Malpelo off the coast of Columbia and is supposed to have some legendary diving, albeit remote! Its also a special trip as its longer than normal. We are guaranteed a group discount on the boat and have a few cabins left for anyone interested in joining us. Let me know if interested!

Improve your buoyancy by learning to use your BCD as little as possible, controlling your depth with calm in-and-out breathing, and keeping your lung half filled with air as a balance point.

In what seems is the third largest extinction event on the planet, more animals struggle to survive changing climate conditions or growing yearn from population growth to consume them. I've always felt tourism is a way to save animals and the planet as because tourism often forces an economy to protect something (a rare sight to see or wild life) to attrat others to see it. Tourism may be the last bastions of protecting some of the remaining species on the planet, but even tourists or companies supporting tourism can cause destruction. Do you feel tourism overall is a good thing as I do?

In June 2023, we stayed at the Tepanee Hotel and dived with MTD, a fantastic local dive shop on Malapascua Island. Despite Typhoon Mawar's high winds and waves, we had an incredible experience. Malapascua offers diverse muck diving, reefs, and aquatic life. The highlight was seeing Thresher Sharks at the Kunad dive site, just 24-28m deep, where they come to be cleaned. We highly recommend Malapascua for its unique underwater adventures! This was one of our first videos on the channel, and it was fully silent! Maybe we should explore some more silent videos? Let us know!
