July 10th 2019. Stefan Karl's birthday. Stefan told me very early on in our relationship that he knew that he would die young. It filled me with sadness every time he mentioned it. How could he know? Looking back everything about the way he lived reflected this inner knowledge. He had such a thirst for life and had to have a taste of it all. He used his time well and his accomplishments in such a short lifetime are incomparable.
It is not yet a year since he passed away and his spirit surrounds the family like a warm breeze. Some day are harder than others, nothing will ever be the same, but his infectious drive for life and fun has made it possible for the family to carry on. Today we embrace all the good memories, all the fun and his never ending joy for life.
Dearest friend, today the kids and I will bake your favorite 'Betty Focker' chocolate cake in your honor. We know you are creating something incredibly funny and beautiful in the future land. We love you.
