Maurits W. Haverkort is a professor at the institute for theoretical physics, Heidelberg University Germany. He works on the theory of correlated quantum materials. Those are materials whereby the interaction between electrons can not be approximated on a mean-field level. For this class of systems solving the Schrödinger equation is to involved even with the most powerful computers. The complexity of these calculations scales exponential with system size and even for the smallest systems one can not write down the many particle wave function. With the use of Correlation functions, Response functions or Green's functions and equations acting on those methods are developed to still be able to make quantitative predictions for this class of materials. Several of the techniques developed to treat these materials are implemented in the software package Quanty www.quanty.org.
