I am honored as someone who was once in active psychosis and addiction, to be invited by the @whitehouse and @namiwisconsin to attend an address about the Biden-Harris Administrations rule to expand access and lower costs for care for mental health and substance use disorders!

I was able to gather with amazing advocates like Former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy, patient advocates from accross Wisconsin, care providers, and members of NAMI, to hear about how this policy will work to cut the red tape for people with mental illness to get the help they need.

United States Deputy Secretary of Labor, @actsecjuliesu , said it perfectly,

“To stop the hurdles we need to eliminate the distinction between Mental health and physical health and treat them as what they really are.. HEALTH.”

Thank you to Andrea Palm, Julie Su, and Neera Tanden for representing the White House in this conversation, and sharing more about this policy but also for reassuring that the current administration understands the need to KEEP WORKING for people with addiction and serious mental illness.

Lastly, thank you to Nze Okoronta (@ephemeralogue ) for sharing her personal and lived experiences to help the administration and communities better understand the needs of patients!

As a patient with lived experience, and an advocate who speaks to patients all over America, I know the importance of fighting the extreme costs of mental health care, to ensure EVERYONE has access to the help they need.

I wasn’t able to drive for several years due the severity of my schizophrenia. I lost the ability to do so much between my diagnosis and my addiction. I bought my first car for $500 while in active addiction and I never thought I’d own a new car in my life! But yesterday we bought a new 2024 Toyota Prius! 🥳🥳

Thank everyone who follows me and helps support my content, advocacy and comedy. You all are the reason I was able to do this! I am grateful!

I’m sorry for the lack of content! But I should be back soon and have worked on some amazing videos!!

My friend Candice, that travels with me to patient roundtables, made these cookies WITH MY FACE ON THEM! 😮

We have been speaking to patients all over the country, and she likes to make and decorate cookies as a hobby and she brought me these today!

Not only do they look cool but they taste AMAZING! Shoutout to Candice for taking time to make these! (I can’t tag her because she doesn’t do social media 😂

After about 6 months of doing speaking, content creation, comedy and writing a book as my full time job, I am so happy to announce that my wife, Allyson, will be working for me full time to help me keep up on content, emails and scheduling!! 🥳🥳

I am so excited to be able to have Allyson come work with me, as she has been such a big part of my journey. I would not be here today, if it was not for her being there through my addiction, schizophrenia diagnosis, and my incarceration.

She worked so hard to get me stable on medication, and support me while I was rebuilding my life. I have worked with her at several jobs and I know how lucky I am to be working with her again! (I truly need her organizational expertise) lol.

We are hoping that this will allow me to reach more people with my story, and to help each other focus on self care and have more time together.

So excited for this! 💚💚💚

Just a reminder that it’s #disabilitypridemonth and some people think that I am “not worth the resources”, because of my schizophrenia.

I get comments like this everyday. People suggesting that I shouldn’t be online, or out in public, or even alive. Comments like this make sharing my story so challenging, but also remind me of why I continue to advocate. Comments like this are also the reason I need to take breaks from social media.

My disability does not make me less of a person. My schizophrenia does not make me unworthy of a happy life. I am so proud to be able to be in a position to share my story and help people better understand schizophrenia, and comments like this only reinforce the need for me to do so.

I WROTE A BOOK!!!

A doctor once told me that I would never be able to work or hold down a job after my schizophrenia diagnosis, and after being a caregiver for my mom with schizophrenia I believed him.

What I didn’t know, was that with the right medication, treatment and workplace accommodations, I could not only have a job but I could actually THRIVE in the workplace!

I am so happy to partner with Wiley publishing to share my story about Mental Health in the Workplace. This book is for patients, HR professionals, business leaders, and ANYONE in any field who cares about mental health and mental illness awareness at work!

It is filled with my own stories of working with serious mental health issues, as well as stories from bipolar advocate ‪@gabehoward29‬ , and schizophrenia advocate ‪@SchizophrenicNYC‬ . I also use mental health and workplace statistics from ‪@NAMICommunicate‬‬ and ‪@SHRMofficial‬

More info to come about release dates and book signings!
