The human mind is influenced by the three gunas or attributes namely Sattva, Rajas and Tamas. At a material level, all components or elements of life can be categorised into the 3 gunas. All the planets also relate to one of the gunas.
Sattva is the balanced, pure energy which sustains life. Sun being the natural Atmakaraka or the soul significator provides life and resources for life to thrive.
Moon denotes purity of thought and nourishment. Jupiter shows benevolence, use of our mind, wisdom forgiveness and expansion.
Sun, moon and Jupiter are called the Sattvik planets. They create life and ensure sustainability. Sun and Moon being luminaries provide strength or rather illuminate the birth chart. No good can come out without their strength.
Rajas is the dynamic, moving , desire filled energy. Rajas makes you compete and be ambitious towards material goals. It makes sure you indulge in sensory enjoyment.
Mercury uses creative energy by way of communicating, being heard and reaching out to the world. React or respond – Mercury rules that. Venus shows pleasure, desire and indulgence. It represents our relationships, attraction, sensory pleasure.
Tamas, as the name reveals shows darkness, inaction, dullness and lack of movement. All that holds us back and does not let change happen. Destruction and disease show tamsik nature. Saturn slows us down. Rahu causes fear and confusion. Mars invites enemies through aggression and anger. It also lets things break down and regenerate. Ketu is not able to think and feel being headless.
All of us at any given point in time are dominated by any of the 3 gunas. No one guna or quality can be dominant throughout. How you balance and carry on with the business of life matters.

So Saturn turns direct today i.e.Nov 4th ... for me the day starts with a 7 hour long trip around Mumbai .... hadn't planned it earlier though...

This morning while I was at my desk, I saw this adorable little creature on the window in front of me.. It kept hoping from one side of the window grill to the other, amusing me all the while.
You know how the mind works na .... it strings things together from the past and present. Took me back to a story from Ramayan which my grandfather used to narrate to me. Now my memory of Ramayan and Mahabharat stories goes back to when I was 5 or 6. I owe my love for reading stories and then when I was a little older , 11 or 12 (I guess) reading astrology books in particular to my grandfather.
The story I remembered was about Lord Rama building the Setu across to Lanka to go and rescue Maa Sita. All the creatures big or small wanted to help in this noble effort. Even a tiny squirrel who kept carrying tiny pebbles towards the bridge. Lord Rama saw this tiny being, thanked him for the efforts and blessed him.
This was a tiny story about a tiny squirrel's hard work and love for Rama. A small act of kindness. The intent matters. All good acts are loved by God .
Remembering my grandfather and the samskaras he instilled in all of us.
