There seems to be confusion around this so I want to make it clear, meditation is not about blocking thoughts and emotions, that could be harmful, it's about working with and training "monkey mind" so that we change our relationship to thoughts and emotions. We become more in control instead of our thoughts and emotions "being our boss", and this is why it's so helpful. There's more to it than that of course but this is the first step.
