My Music Facebook page is currently down & I might abandon it if it's lost. But I wrote a pretentious write-up of my album from last year, so here's this:

I'm very into content being free, & very* opposed to advertising. Content creators deserve an income, but everyone deserves an income for the sake of sustenance, which ought to be universal. Within the model of paid work, I guess I'd suggest something like Bulgaria's funding for arts that represent its cultural heritage, but without needing tradition as a justification. And without needing the model of paid work. And just letting people come up with stuff and be alive (see, it's not even a selfish motivation). :)

*my opinion of advertising ought not to count as extreme, but the current climate of advertising is extremely invasive

music:
done my best to disallow my music from being associated with money and advertising all along, except:
I published an album on CD in 2011 & sold it to break even but I shouldn't have
slight lapses on Bandcamp because it defaults every individual track to "allow people to pay for this" & it takes multiple clicks per track to disable that
a few months ago I was talked into appearing on Spotify for the sake of being part of how most people access music. since the same means of publishing there also publishes on every other streaming service, I just took the hit and went for them all. There's even YouTube Topic channels now. One person bought one of my (albums? tracks?) on Amazon??
I might give a video-glimpse into my means of publishing there; it's on the website routenote.
I have some regrets in crossing that line; I don't think I did it for the right reason & it's a basically permanent (unless I go through strenuous takedowns maybe) association of my music and commerce. I'll probably still publish future Absentine the same way though; I made the decision and it feels absolute. I've made like $6.66, and this will forever increase in a few microcents per year. guess I'll give the income to an independent arts charity or something? if I see one begging on the street?

video:
I disallow advertising on my YouTube. YouTube adverts are heinous; accessing what people want to publish is nice. I think I saw that they're gonna start advertising on pause screens now?? so you can't pause to get a clean screenshot? or take a break without getting products shoved at you?
I recently heard [citation needed] that engagement is markedly lower on channels or content that doesn't allow adverts, because the algorithm is advertising-oriented rather than rewarding things for being interesting. I understand that I generally get buried in search results for relevant strings & I don't wish to compete in the market, I roughly aspire to be findable when relevant, to those who would appreciate the content...
I understand/expect that, atm, the only time YouTube shows ads alongside/associated with my content is when it's detected that I've used someone else's work. Obviously I do that a lot, but hopefully I can still call that a side-hobby vs original content. I consider this advertising fair enough in the overview, the naive overview that the composer would get paid rather than the megacorp that's bought them out, but sure whatever.

but yeah I guess it brings me closer to the ugly line of "YouTube is literally obscuring me for being averted to capitalism. I may as well give in to capitalism". ain't crossing that yet, but as YouTube gets worse, it could happen via a similar shrug to the Spotify stuff, and with a similar resultant wince, but also increased public accessibility in the post-apocalypse we happen to inhabit

I used to 'maintain' facebook.com/papertruth - it's been down for a while, without my knowledge or consent. trying to scrape it back if possible. It wasn't important & Facebook is barely functional now, but it's got some material on there: some writings and photos and reuploads of video stuff.
If I can't get it back I guess I'll look for some other server & have to lose whatever wasn't backed-up. I don't think YouTube is anywhere near as crap as general social media, but Bandcamp still seems to retain its dignity above any of these engagement-oriented platforms. Bandcamp and this channel are my main servers until further notice. linktr.ee/csurname

got some nearly-finished videos I didn't bother finishing, I guess they will eventually happen,
but I think I'm managing to focus on musicking, the thing I'm technically better at. lots coming through here. find me there rather than here really.
csurname.bandcamp.com/
I claimed that there'd be things with music videos, and there's been some with obvious visual elements but it becomes so obvious that it's not worth making. I will make more than 0 music videos, but not loads more.

got this up to 8 tracks absentine.bandcamp.com/album/survivorship-a-work-i…
might take a while for any more but there's a few pipelining

I've had shifting ideas of a full album tracklist, currently with 17 things on it... various things written 2020-2022 keep getting leapfrogged by newer ideas, but I'm not quite throwing them all out

I think I'm comfortable with making videos less if it means I make music more. I'm better at it and it's better.

continuing adventures in self-involvement:

csurname.bandcamp.com/

Since I caught up with smartphone technology, I recorded most songs that I had a go at, and occasionally sent them to relevant friends on Messenger until I realised how generally unwelcome that is. They've just festered there, but there are some that I did quite well, I never bothered taking to video.
There were about 1400 of these files. I think there were another couple hundred (I remember some specific ones that aren't there) but those are probably gone. A lot of these tend to be my first attempt at the song, with lyrics or Ultimate Guitar in front of me, trying not to restart if I stumble. As an act of digital döstädning I've whittled them into categories:
unfinished my-song demos (private! a useful self-reminder!)
my songs that I've published (might have a look at those later but I doubt they're impressive)
then of covers,
not good enough
those I can retry with video (a lot!)
good enough but I won't retry
good enough THAT I won't retry

so of course, 100 of the last category are going public. I've decided they might be digestible as five hour-long/20-track 'albums' and they're on Bandcamp for now. Bandcamp claims not to allow covers but loads of people do them. I might transfer it to YouTube instead/as well. I've tried not to repeat covering an artist on the same album but it happens between solo and band careers.

A lot of guitar ones got deleted because of how I've struggled with intonation, and I think the mic doesn't do guitar as well, plus maybe I'm just ironically bad at tuning. Still, a few got through, so grit yr teeth. I'm less able to play guitar now so I didn't want to lose all the evidence of me almost managing.

Then... there's another 200 tracks nobody will browse, but I don't think I'll bother to do them on camera.

note that video audio isn't any better anyway, could even be worse. I think I can sing more richly than carries to that distance.

I don't have reason to believe these will be of value to anyone but it felt better than deleting. I've given the song title but not the artist; it feels easy to look it up. Similarly, if the title's one you know it's probably but not certainly that song.

It's 2017-2022 stuff. Before 2017 I wasn't recording; after 2022 I learned to focus on YouTube.

Please let me know if there's any errors. In metadata, not performance.

watch out, there's more of me. yeah, I'm up my ass enough to publish mono phone mic cover songs. Here are some; I might package them into a YouTube hour if I can come up with visuals. There might be more too. maybe loads. :/ csurname.bandcamp.com/album/coverdose

I made another set of quicksongs. Let's hope I actually break the habit now; nothing more creative can be done without learning more instruments/ways to play them & I ought to work on things that require work. I'll put this onto YouTube soon but here it is as this thing. csurname.bandcamp.com/album/sour-gripes
