Autism Awareness Week!!!
I was officially diagnosed with autism 2,5 years ago at the age of 36!! To me it’s so evident and now that I am aware of it I don’t understand how I managed to hide to so well. Well, the smarter you are socially, the better you are at hiding. It’s called masking and it’s nothing we do that we’re aware of, or to get in someone’s good grace. It’s something we do in order to survive and get accepted, and I believe that for anyone that’s not in that position, well it’s really difficult to comprehend.
Autism is a spectrum! It’s not a disorder or disease, listen back in the day people would call having a different sexual orientation to be a disease, or what about believing in the esoteric? That was also known as disease or even worse, being possessed. This is what happens when people fail to become aware and let their fear of finding out the unknown rule instead of honest curiosity and compassion.
So this week let’s read all about it, let’s ask our autistic friends and family, let’s watch some new docs on it, let’s keep updated and let’s celebrate the variety that God/Universe and Life has gifted us with.
