I’m asking for your support to uplift my friend Justin Chung pardon campaign this week!

As an update, AJSOCAL (Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California) has taken on his representation in immigration proceedings. He had his last hearing on February 24th and the Immigration Judge turned his case back over to DHS for execution of his removal order. His attorney is filing a petition for review and hopefully we can get a stay of removal while we continue to push for his pardon with the Governor’s office. He is also working with AJSOCAL’s policy team to pass AB 617 (Rep4All) to remove the criminal carveouts in state funding so no one is excluded from getting the legal representation they need.
Please join Justin for a Day of Action this Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

3. EMAIL GOV. NEWSOM
· Go to Gov. Newsom’s Contact Form
· Scroll to the section titled “By Email and select the purpose of communication “Leave a comment”
· Select Topic “Clemency - Pardon”
· Select Stance “Pro”
· Write Your Message: I am writing this letter in support of Justin Chung, a formerly incarcerated Korean immigrant currently at risk for deportation. Justin immigrated to the United States at the age of 2. At a young age, the absence of his hard-working parents heavily impacted him. Justin experienced loneliness, resentment, and bullying from neighborhood kids. This ultimately led him to join a gang to find community. At 16, he was sentenced as an adult. After 12 years into his sentence, former Governor Jerry Brown took notice of Justin’s rehabilitation and transformation and reduced Justin’s sentence. Upon paroling, Justin was directly transferred to ICE. Today, Justin is the caretaker of his elderly mother. Being granted a pardon allows Justin more opportunities to be financially stable and continue to be a community member. He currently works and volunteers at a non-profit supporting at-risk youth and incarcerated people with re-entry programs. Justin has graduated Bible seminary and cosmetology school. Additionally, he has acquired his cosmetology license. I urge Governor Newsom to grant Justin a Pardon to keep him home with his family and community.

4. CALL GOV. NEWSOM
Call Governor Newsom’s office: (916) 445-2841
Sample Script: “Hello. My name is _______, and I respectfully urge Governor Newsom to grant clemency for Justin Chung. He has completed their prison sentence, but he is at risk for deportation. Without a pardon, they are limited to resources that are needed for a successful reentry like job security, financial stability, and housing. Justin has contributed greatly to the community and deserve to be reunited with their loved ones and continue their community work in the United States. Please grant clemency for Justin Chung and other immigrants and refugees who are facing deportation. Thank you.”
