So excited I could burst!! Waiting for Martha Argerich to play Beethovens 2nd piano concerto in Oxford. The excitement built a bit too much as they announced a programme change to begin with and played the second half - Tchaikovsky symphony no 4 first!! Piano is now in place……so awaiting Martha 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼💖💖💖💖

It’s been a little while but here’s a Special Halloween short….Mozarts piano concerto no 20 in D minor (and Beethovens favourite of the 27). Thanks to the fab #Tomplay orchestra - details of a tomplay trial in the video description.

Liszt on Chopin and Rubato
Liszt said……‘Look at those trees! The wind plays in the leaves, stirs up the life amongst them, the tree remains the same. That is Chopinesque rubato.’

Chopin as pianist and teacher advice on rubato (p.50)
‘The left hand, is the choir master: it mustn’t relent or bend. It’s a clock. Do with the right hand what you want and can.’
Food for thought especially with those never ending left hand nocturnes figurations…..

I’ve been on a little bit of a hiatus recently but I plan an upload of Chopins E minor nocturne plus tutorial very soon. In anticipation, here is a book recommendation. Absolutely essential reading!!!❤️

Which composer said this?
‘To send light into the darkness of men's hearts - such is the duty of the artist.’

Welcome to Piano Angelicus. My name is Louise Lipatti-Mesme and I'm a pianist living in Yorkshire in the UK. Enjoy all things piano here - classical repertoire, amazing location performances, tutorials, relaxing covers and more!
I began playing the piano when I was 6 after asking for a piano when i was 2! I have studied with many great and eminent teachers including Yu Chun Yee at the Royal College of Music, John Lenehan, John Barstow, Alan Rolands, Elizabeth de La Porte, and various great pianists in masterclasses. Earlier I studied with Sally Mellor and her mentor Ruth Nye. Ruth famously was a student of the great Claudio Arrau, who if following back teacher/pupil we get to Beethoven (and Haydn). Its a lineage I am very proud of.
