It feels like just yesterday / July 1, 2020

💫 Today is the 2nd anniversary of the Artistic Journey Membership!

Many members have been in the membership since the beginning and I love seeing so many members getting results and improving a lot.

We started practicing lines and shapes in the drawing course and now we're going through the colored pencil course and just started stage 3 - creating portraits.

After the summer I want to alternate and create new graphite lessons for the drawing course.

So much more to draw and create...

Looking forward to another year ✍️😃

What kind of paper is your favorite to use with colored pencils?

👉 the 3 types of paper I’ve used are bristol smooth, watercolor hot pressed and bristol vellum.

Blending with colored pencils is very different from blending with graphite pencils, a blending stump or soft tissue are of no use here.

Using the right kind of paper, knowing how to layer your colors and using the right shading techniques are important when creating your colored drawings.

Read more about how to blend with colored pencils in the blog here: www.emmykalia.com/blog/how-to-blend-with-colored-p…

Did you start by learning the basics of colored pencils or just started practicing?

In the membership, we go over the basic colored pencil techniques because these are the foundation for any type of colored pencil drawing.

Once you understand and practice more with color it can help you with your color choices in your drawings.

Do you want to learn more about colored pencils?

You’ve probably used them before but now it’s time to learn how to use them the right way so you can create beautiful and colorful art.

In the colored pencil course, you will learn everything about coloring with colored pencils and how to achieve a realistic look.

I will show you how to make a color wheel, how to mix colors, how to layer your colors, blending tips and techniques, how to look at light and shadows in an object and how to look at details in a reference photo.

👉 Join us in the membership so you can learn something new, see yourself improve, and finally be proud of the art you’re creating.

Being an artist is more than just putting ‘pencil to paper’, you need a lot of other life skills as well…

Having passion and dreaming of a life as an artist is also not enough. Because then you’ll probably end up with a lot of unfinished work or give up altogether at some point.

If you really want to be an artist you’ll need to realize that it takes a little bit of everything to help you get there but once you do you’ll be on an incredible journey.

There are 7 life skills you 'need' to be an Artist. Read more about it in the blog here: www.emmykalia.com/blog/what-you-need-to-be-an-arti…

PS. I drew these in 2016 ✍️
