It was especially inspiring to see my former volleyball coach, Nedra Brown, and her 1994 SIAC Championship basketball team recognized after 30 years. The Innovator in Residency program at Memphis Public Libraries – Cossitt Branch (33 S Front Street) has earned an Urban Libraries Council Innovation Award honorable mention! Launched in Spring 2023, MPL’s first Innovator, podcaster and radio personality Ena Esco, helped create a podcasting studio at Cossitt, hosting workshops, mentoring over 40 podcasters, and launching the #podboxmemphispodcastfestival. Her efforts resulted in 20 new podcasts, and she secured $300,510 in grant funding to expand the program. Through 2026, the program will add seven Innovators, creating entrepreneurial opportunities while enhancing community engagement.
