Today, Jan. 16, Dian would have been 93 years old.
Dian Fossey dedicated her life to saving the mountain gorillas from extinction in Rwanda. Because of Dian, they are now the ONLY nonhuman great ape increasing in number.
This is a fragile conservation success: only about 1,100 mountain gorillas still remain on the planet. We work tirelessly every day to continue the brave work she began. We can't think of a better way to honor Dian than to contribute to gorilla conservation.
Will you do your part to save gorillas and remember Dian on her birthday? Consider making a donation to our boots-on-the-ground work today:

The mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park have primate neighbors: the golden monkeys (and just like mountain gorillas, their infants are ADORABLE). 🐒
✨ Unlike gorillas, who breed year-round, golden monkeys are seasonal breeders.
✨ Golden monkey reproduction is dependent on the availability of nutrition, and in particular, bamboo.
✨ As part of our conservation efforts, we monitor the births of these incredible primates closely.
"The golden monkey birthing season is an amazing time, as we watch new mothers bond with their infants, while others without babies surround them and observe," says research assistant Alexandre Gategeko. "It’s a time of communal bonding."

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is dedicated to the conservation and protection of gorillas and their habitats in Africa. We are committed to promoting continued research on their threatened ecosystems and education about their relevance to the world in which we live. In collaboration with government agencies and other international partners, we also provide assistance to local communities through education, health, training and economic development initiatives.
