A person has sadly lost their life at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport today, after ‘falling’ into a running aircraft engine. The engine was of a KLM Embraer E190 aircraft.

The incident occurred just before 15:00 local time this afternoon, when an unspecified person ‘fell’ into the running engine of the jet. The Embraer 190 was readying to take off for Billund in Denmark, operating flight KL 1341.

The flight, which has a pushback time of 14:25, was scheduled to be operated today by PH-EZL, a 14-year-old Embraer regional jet.

“Today there was a horrible incident where a person ended up in an airplane engine. Our thoughts go out to the relatives and we are caring for the passengers and colleagues who witnessed this. The Royal Military Police is currently conducting an investigation."...

It’s not clear whether the fatality was an airport employee or a member of the public.

There have been a string of such incidents in the last few days.

Flight attendant injured in Turkish Airlines turbulence incident

A Turkish Airlines Airbus #A321 flight from Istanbul to Izmir faced severe turbulence recently, enough to cause a significant injury to a cabin crew member. According to a report by the Hurriyet Daily News, the plane was rocked by sudden turbulence shortly after the pilot turned on the sign to fasten the seat belts.

Flight attendants are often the most vulnerable in such situations as they perform other flight duties and may not reach their seats in time to avoid injuries. In the case of the Turkish Airlines incident, a flight attendant, who was just two months into the job, was flung to the ceiling before falling hard on the floor, suffering from a broken backbone.

The incident reportedly took place on flight TK2320, operated by an A321 aircraft. It is a short domestic hop that lasts less than an hour, although the day of the incident is still to be determined. Simple Flying has contacted Turkish Airlines and will update the article as and when we receive more information...

A Qatar Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was met by emergency services at Dublin Airport today after turbulence injured six passengers and six crew members on flight QR017 from Doha. This news follows another severe turbulence event this week, which saw a passenger pass away on a Singapore Airlines 777.

Sky News has shared the following statement from Graeme McQueen, media relations manager at daa, which manages the operations of Dublin Airport,

"Qatar Airways flight QR017 from Doha landed safely as scheduled at Dublin Airport shortly before 13.00 on Sunday. Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services, including Airport Police and our Fire and Rescue department, due to six passengers and six crew [12 total] on board reporting injuries after the aircraft experienced turbulence while airborne over Turkey."

McQueen added that airport staff are continuing to assist passengers. He also noted that his team is providing airline personnel with support.

Qatar Airways has since informed Simple Flying that the injuries are minor. Still, the flag carrier of Qatar has highlighted that those affected are receiving medical attention and that safety remains its top priority. As such, an internal investigation has commenced.

Registration A7-BHM was the #787 performing flight QR17. The twinjet joined Qatar Airways' fleet in September 2023, fresh from Boeing's Everett facility. It is one of 48 787s in the airline's holdings...

In a rare incident, a passenger has been killed and 30 others suffered injuries due to severe turbulence on a flight from London to Singapore. The death has been confirmed by Singapore Airlines.
In a statement, Singapore Airlines said flight number SQ321, which took off from Heathrow Airport in London on Monday and was headed to Singapore, “encountered severe turbulence” en route. The aircraft was diverted to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport, where it landed at 3.45 pm (local time) on Tuesday.

The plane - a Boeing 777-300 ER - had 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board.

Offering its condolences to the family of the person who died, the airline said, “We can confirm that there are injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing... Our priority is to provide all possible assistance to all passengers and crew on board the aircraft. We are working with the local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical assistance, and sending a team to Bangkok to provide any additional assistance needed.”

Experts said such injuries usually happen when passengers are not wearing a seatbelt and the pilot has not been able to give an advanced warning because information from the weather radar does not indicate any turbulence. In such cases, passengers can be thrown around in the cockpit, which may lead to injuries.
