Tube radios are somewhat mythical to me, I have never actually seen one in action. I found a perfectly restored Hammarlund HQ-129X, made in the 1940s, on Facebook Marketplace and I am really impressed. It produces clean, noise-free sound and is really sensitive. This video is my first, very brief, look at this radio and a quick band scan. More videos to come!

It has been confirmed. Production has ended on two legendary analogue Tecsun radios. Is this the end of the line for analogue radio? I talk about this and more in my latest radio news report.

My brand new Qodosen DX-286 arrived yesterday. I compared the DX-286 to the SR-286 on FM and SW, to check whether there is any difference in performance between these two radios. You can also see my unboxing of the DX-286, and a demonstration of some of the new shortcut functions on the DX-286.

Some good news for those of you who have been put off by the high price of the excellent Qodosen SR-286. There is a new version that has just been released. It is now called the DX-286, and is available at a much lower price.

Decisions, decisions! I need some help to decide on my next radio purchase. There are three receivers that I am particularly interested in, but I am not sure which one to buy first. Which one of these three would you like me to test on my channel?

With news of the BBC cutting SW broadcasts to Africa, do you think this is a sign of the beginning of the end of our SWL hobby?

Some unwelcome news from the BBC. Further cuts in shortwave transmissions. Sad day for SW listeners.

Check out my full review of the new XHDATA D-608WB. I am really impressed with this small radio. It is very compact and will make a great camping radio. It is perfect for emergencies. It can charge your phone, has two light sources and a long-lasting 3000 mAh battery. The NOAA weather band will be useful for people in the United States. Best of all, reception on all bands is really excellent, even with the rather short whip antenna. When you add a wire it gets even better, with no overloading issues.

XHDATA contacted me about two weeks ago to ask if I would be willing to evaluate a new radio, which has not been released yet. I agreed, and the package arrived today. This is me opening the package, which also contained another radio that many of my viewers have asked me to review. I will upload a full unboxing and review soon, I am very excited about this radio. XHDATA has proven themselves with some good radios over the past few years!

I have just arrived back home in South Africa after my European trip, with quite a few more DXing videos that still need editing. I had a really wonderful trip and visited many beautiful and historic cities, from Amsterdam to Bratislava in Slovakia, and others in between. I was lucky to experience some snow in the High Tatra Mountains in Slovakia. The DXing was great, especially on MW. I also enjoyed being able to catch some LW stations. SW DXing was OK, although not as exciting as I had hoped for, with some exceptions. In the next week or so I will upload several videos of my hotel room catches. There is one more LW video, exciting MW band scans in Amsterdam, Berlin and Bratislava (Slovakia), and a couple of SW catches. I will also do a review video of the XHDATA D-808 and the Retekess V115 as travel radios.
